Plastic Box Question

I’ve noticed that some of my Mark II plastic boxes have a flat section molded on the end of the box for the label and some are just pebbled like the rest of the box. Most have been bought used so I can’t validate that they’re in the original box. Does anyone know if there is a significance to this? I was thinking that maybe the ones without the label area were individual boxes purchased from Ruger.

BTW, the only way I’ve been able to get a label to stay on one of the pebbled boxes is to lightly sand the label area so the glue has something to grip. Otherwise the label just falls off after a few weeks.

I saw a post on another forum that indicated the early plastic box models had the label on the cardboard mailer and not on the plastic box. Is that what I'm seeing?

Many of the early boxes did not have a smooth place for a label. Later ones did. I think you are correct in the issue being the label adhesion.

Yes...the first plastic boxes were shipped with a brown outer cardboard sleeve, on which the label was pasted. Now you get the label on the end of the plastic box and no cardboard sleeve.
