Picture of one of my favorite Rugers

This is a black and white shot of my favorite "old" Vaquero. It's a stainless steel high-polish 5 1/2" convertible, chambered for either .45 Colt or .45 ACP. It's equipped with a Ron Power conversion to allow loading from the half-cock position, with the chambers perfectly aligned by reverse indexing, much like the old model Blackhawks. I was experimenting with some photo techniques, and rather like the way this one turned out.

I have the companion blued SS Bisley Vaquero (as well as a Bisley Blackhawk Convertible .45 Colt/.45 ACP).

By any rational standard these are outstanding revolvers.

My Bisley Vaquero was perfectly regulated to point of aim at 25 yards with a 250-260 gr bullet RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. Over a period of a couple of years, I won several matches with my Vaquero with Black Powder (full loads). The best performance came at Friendship, IN (NMLRA Grounds) during a BPCR Silhouette match I entered the Pistol Side Match (aggregate of 8 score matches shot at 25 and 50 yards). I won 7 of the 8 matches and had a 92x100 Slow Fire at 50 yards (had to hold high at 50 yards to center the bull, of course).

I thought that was a pretty dern good performance for a fixed sighted black powder revolver at full tilt. Needless to say, that revolver has a special spot in my heart!

My first single action was a 5.5" Bisley Vaquero in .357. I was worried about getting a fixed sight revolver, and had heard of some not shooting to POA.

First shot with mine, a 158gr .357 load, landed dead center in the target at 25 feet. I was very pleased.

One of the things I like best about this pic is how even though it shows a high gloss piece of iron, there is no "fun-house mirror" effect, showing a distorted image of the photographer, in the gun's highly reflective finish. Sometimes "hiding" from this phenomenon can be a daunting task as a photographer.
