Picked this up earlier in the week for next to nothing, it was nonfunctioning when I got. Someone along the line had lost the cylinder center lock pin, replacement came in todays mail and she is working again! Mfg. 1978, no end shake, lockup is very tight despite it's rough appearance mechanically in excellent shape. Have a red ramp front site and white outline rear on the way for it, and next up is finding someone locally who can give it a bead blast to get rid of some of the light pitting that is on the cylinder.

Excellent find on a great revolver, sir. While you are waiting on the bead blasting, give the cylinder a good buffing with a metal polish such as Flitz. If the pitting isn't too deep, it may take care of the issue.

Where did you get the red ramp front sight? I've been looking for one for a long time.

Thanks guys, Numrich has them, Penn state police contract over runs, stainless with red ramp, $6.85 per. I went ahead and ordered 2 of them, always nice to have a spare.
I couldn't hold off for the range and went and put 12 rds through it last nite, runs like a champ and is very accurate to boot!

I had bought 2 of those front sight inserts (orange) and they are the "larger" insert made for the guns after 1978 (or so). It fit my newer 1978 SS S6 but not my older 1975 blue S6. The '75 of mine has the same insert that yours has and its the smaller one that nobody seems to have anymore.
If you manage to fit it to yours, please let us know what you had to do to make it fit.

Mine is a 78 as well, hopefully it'll work. My better half has infinite patience so I'll have her fit it if necessary.
