Picked up my new pistol today!! I got it home and field stripped it....tons and tons of grease. Everywhere. in the slide...along the rails...in all the trigger mechanisms....and the striker channel was PACKED!!! I have no clue why the first thing in the owners manual doesn't say to clean it out before firing....but it should.
Pics coming as soon as I figure out what is wrong with my Picasa account....

My 40c is a fantastic pistol; one of the best pistols I have ever owned and the best 40 by far. It is extremely accurate compared to any other 40 I have ever shot or seen. It has mild recoil that is barely more than my 9mm which is a huge difference from other 40s that recoil like a .357 magnum. You should be very pleased with it.

I found that the packing grease comes off very easily if you use a gun cleaner like breakfree or m-pro. Then brush it out.

How much thicker is the SR40c than the SR9c?

I've heard it's about .100" wider. I have set a 9c side by side with a 40c and that's about right from what I can tell. If you aren't really looking for the difference, you really can't see it.

EDIT: I just took the time to measure both. The SR40c measures 1.070" across the slide and the SR9c measures .990". Sooo... it's .080" difference.

I picked up my SR40c about a month ago and didn't receive the "gift of grease". I feel cheated!!

I did give it a quick cleaning before going to the range, though. I like the feel of the pistol. It is accurate, but did need a of sight adjustment, it shot about 3" to the left at 15 yds. I adjusted and now hit point of aim with most 180 grain loads.Close enough for social work!!

I plan on installing the Ghost trigger connector and the aluminum firing pin cap to smooth things out a bit. I'm a bit of a trigger snob!

I love my SR40c. It is my CCW pistol now. Hope you get as much enjoyment out of yours. Ruger made another winner!
