I got me a 10/22 Yesterday. Wood Stock. Never owned one before but have shot a couple. I can not wait to get my scope mounted and get out and see what it can do..

Happy for you Merlin as they are really fun little guns. Hawkeye is right, give it a run before mounting a scope just in case it might have to make a trip back to Ruger. I see you fellows are from SC. I have a good friend in Spartanburg, we meet in the army 45 years ago.

Thanks guys. But scope is mounted. My eyes do not work well with iron sights that small like they used to. Dang being farsighted. It came with the scope mount and I had a scope in the closet so its on.. Take a few seconds to remove if need be..
I hope to get out this weekend and run some of the various rounds I have through it. I used to have a Rem 597. Very accurate rifle but had to many FTF and FTEs for my taste so I sold it cheap.
I will get some extra mags and a couple high cap ones to play with.

Merlin, do yourself a favor and clean & lightly lubricate it prior to taking it to the range for the first time. This will help keep you from having a disappointing day at the range. With the cooler temps we are having this week it might pay to keep your ammo indoors until you get ready to shoot it.

Great fun gun, and incredibly reliable. My advice is to stay with 1st tier ammo such as CCI Mini-Mags and if you wish to go to 25 capacity mags, stick with the Ruger BX-25 and avoid aftermarket plastic wannabes.

I picked up the take down model last Sunday with two of the 25 round mags. Awesome little gun. So far, just shooting with iron sights between 15 yards to check the sights and then out to about 35 yards. Pretty reliable, but considering a scope for longer ranges. Any suggestions?

My scope was free as a found item so I have no recommendations although free is good. I had already built mine with open sights as the plan when the free scope showed up. Don't spend a fortune on a scope for that unit IMO.
Cheap 3-9 power with at least a 40mm front lens is about all you need on a 10/22. I know you get what you pay for but most cheap rimfire scopes work great on this rifle....

Congrats Merlin on getting yourself a new P-shooter. 10/22's are great little guns and they are tons of funs! 25rd Banana mags are a must and lots of ammo.
Ive got one that was given to me by a friend of my dads. I put on a cheap Bushnell that I got from Big5 with a set of see through rings and the thing is simply accurate! Good luck with yours!

I have not had a chance to take it out yet to shoot. I broke it down and cleaned in and coated the parts with Rem oil.. Can't wait to get out and break it in.
I've been using Shooter's Ridge 25 round mags for years. Never had a problem with them. I have 5 of them. As to being cheap plastic wannabees, they were around for a long time before Ruger woke up and started to make 25 rounders. Seems like Ruger is making the wannabees.
Mine is a great shooter as well. There's so much you can do to them as well but you really don't need to. Mine's a 1999 blued/wood stocked standard model and it's been a joy to own and held up 100%. Added a scope and called it good. It's just a fun rifle that always works!
