Patridge sight replacement for Blackhawk front sights.

Can anyone suggest a source for a patridge style front sight for my Bisley Blackhawk? I have one stainless and one blued version. The stainless model is pinned, the blued one looks soldered.

On the blue gun, I would have the blade ground off and the base milled with a slot so you can pin in a replacement like the stainless gun.

Yes, I have Googled and found nothing. David Clements might be able to do something, provided that I send the gun in to him. Aside from the high-viz sights, there does not seem to be anything available.

Sorry, it's true, there are no off-the-shelf replacement Patridge sights for Ruger single actions except
the one Ruger factory sight for the 22 Auto I linked to below.

Or the custom smiths who have had to produce their own. And as you probably found out, they are not cheap and there's a long wait time.

Otherwise it will take some creativity.The original sight must be unsoldered and the new sight screwed on or soldered on. So whatever you do will have to be a custom of some sort. But there are much cheaper ways to go. If it's not something you want to tackle yourself, it will have to involve a gunsmith, but not one of the custom smiths.

Your stainless is the easiest. You or your gunsmith can drive out the pin. Use one of many available blade blanks. Then blue it and mount with the pin. See links below for several blade blanks available.

The same thing applies to the blue gun but as I mentioned above, the original blue base will need a milled slot to match the stainless sight base; also not difficult for any gunsmith. A blade as above can used and pinned in place as well. The benefit of using the original sight base that's soldered on the gun already, is that you won't need to remove and re-blue the barrel.

Here's the Ruger factory Patridge sight for $9 .420" high that screws on. You could have your original sight base unsoldered and screw this on. Or your original base milled flat as well as the bottom of this one, and screw it on and you won't have to re-blue.

Here's several Patridge blade blanks around or under $10 from Brownells that with a little reshaping of the bottom can be pinned in. Some have a dovetailed base. On your blue gun, just cut off the original blade and dovetail one into your original base:

I am going to have to buy another Blackhawk, with the too short sight, and try out dovetailing the base of the sight. Depending on the blade used, it could look pretty sharp IMHO.

Another option, if the existing sight is tall enough, is to modify it to the #5 style front sight. Sort of like this, only with a more pronounced step in the sight

Tek4260, I looked at the H&R site but did not see parts available. But I did find it available at Brownell's . What can you tell me about mounting a Handi Rifle front sight on my Blackhawk?
Here's a mod to the existing sight that I have been considering:

First off, that cut you have drawn is exactly what I am talking about as far as the #5 modification, and what I have pictured on mine above more or less. You don't have to go too deep into the existing sight. Only roughly as "deep" as your rear sight notch depth to have a great sight picture. Notice the cut on mine is pretty shallow since it wears a Millet rear with a shallow notch.

As far as the H&R sight, you will have to remove the factory sight which takes a lot of heat and will discolor the blue. Then you will have to drill and tap the barrel to attach it with a screw. The one picutred above was a 7.5 that I cut so I didn't have to worry with the blueing issue. As far as how to get one? That is easy enough! Just PM your address and I'll mail you one. I have a couple left. The only issue might be height. I am not sure if it is tall enough for your revolver, but you can compare it to your existing sight when in hand. The one pictured is from a handgun caliber Handi Rifle and they were taller than the ones for standard rifle calibers.

Also, the Handi Rifle sight is not as wide as the factory front sight base, and it isn't blued under there of course... :)

Mr. Clements sold me a pat.sight for a SS BH. You'll have to drill the hole. I think it cost $35.00.

That's a beautiful 44. Your project is a huge success. Hadn't seen it before that I recall. Nice work. A good example of what a guy can do for himself w/o spending gobs of money.

One way I've used to deal with the 'billboard' when the barrel will be cut short enough to remove the ERH screw hole, is to turn the barrel one 1/4 turn tighter which puts the 'billboard' on the bottom like the current Rugers. Even if the 'billboard' is removed and touched up, it's hardly noticeable when at the bottom of the barrel.

Either 1/32" off the face of the frame or the shoulder of the barrel threads (no blue touch up needed) will allow the extra 1/4 turn. Of course the barrel throat will need about the same amount removed too, but that does allow the opportunity to tighten up the barrel cylinder gap if needed.

Here are some pictures of a 30 Carbine I cut for dad and removed the warning from the side of the barrel. It was a rough old revolver to begin with, but it turned out pretty good. Once the blue on the barrel starts to match the rest, it will be hard to tell the billboard was ever even there.

Where do I find the clement sights? Tek4260....still have those ha do rifle sights? Did you solder or screw them on? And do they work with factory rear? I have a 7.5 that's gonna get cut down to 4.626-4.75 range.
