My older pants have 7 belt loops. My next older ones have 6 and my new ones have 5. I hope they stop this penny pinching at 3. :)

My newest pants fly zippers are an inch shorter than my older ones. With my enlarged prostate, this is a bit of a problem. God help all of us when the zippers get to one inch. :)

On the good news front, the toilet paper makers have mostly backed off on the the sub 4 inch squares. I believe some Canadian company still makes the original 5" square TP.

Then came the smaller tuna fish cans.

A pound of most any food is now 15 oz. and 12 oz is getting more popular.

A 5 pound sack of sugar now weighs 4 pounds.

I can foresee the day when a Trojan cannot be used as a water balloon but only as a water bubble. :)

When will the madness stop?

John

I wear the jeans made by commies and I still have 7 belt loops. I'd have a problem if they shorted me because I know exactly where my holster goes. I also don't worry about zippers as I use the buttons. Bottom one always stays unbuttoned so things can get air. I go with Costco TP and they seem the right size for my needs. I don't do any grocery shopping so I can't comment on the food products.

A Trojan water bubble may just be the ticket to match up with a 1" zipper.

People get shorter as they get older so it all works out.
If you are getting wider, well..........there ya go.... :P

I agree with SAJohn on everything listed. I suppose that makes me an official member of the old farts club too. As to the toilet paper sizes, I am pretty sure that I have definitely come across some pretty narrow rolls in some of the commercial stalls. Fortunately, they add in the feature of total non absorbency. Of course, perhaps businesses are simplifying supply lists and are just using adding machine paper rolls instead. I think they should just go all the way and just put in a spool of dental floss.

I feel your pain. The newer "trendy" brands of jeans are more for show than work and there's no consistency in sizing. Having more belt loops helps keep all the stuff in order better and prevents knife or phone pouches from migrating too far toward the back. That causes discomfort and seat wear. I tend to buy cheaper jeans and often buy second hand if I can find them. In this case, you take what you get and move on. Jeans don't last very long in my use anyway.

Apparently all bigger companies have bean counters who squeeze in cost cuts,, all while charging the same money to consumers.
Reduce the thickness of jean material,,, sell for the same as before.
Reduce the number of belt loops,, sell for the same money as before.
Make toilet paper squares smaller,, sell for the same money as before.
Reduce a 1/2 gallon of ice cream to 1.5 qt., sell for the same money as before.
Make a candy bar smaller, sell for the same money as before.
Reduce the size of a 1 lb can of food to 15 oz or less,, sell for the same money as before.

The list is ENDLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Teams of engineers are told to figure out ways to reduce costs,, and often,, this is the result.

My last batch of work pants have all the belt loops on the front except for one in the back. The fly is at 12 o’clock. Belt loops at 1,2,3 then 6 then 9,10, &11.

SEE! If you buy from exclusivo places like I do (Sam's Club), you don't have that
problem. The ones I bought two years ago have 6. The new ones have eight.

:D

Narrow toilet paper ?? Just USE MORE and LONGER PIECES; Ditto with paper towels; Just keep yanking them out until you get enough to dry your hands.

I bet some checking would show that the stores and other places DO NOT save money using narrow and short toilet paper and towels, people just use more !!

Potato chip manufacturers (Frito-Lay, in particular) are guilty of the shrinking bag issue as well. A bag the size of 2 or 3 actual “real life” servings is nearly four bucks now. None of the boys I eat with consider 11 potato chips a “serving”.

Why the heck did they sculpture my bar of Dial soap? It wasn't to fit my hand better.

That's one that gripes me too. Must be the same people that put a dome in the bottom of my chicken salad containers. Looks like you're getting a big tub of chicken salad but you open it up and the bottom almost touches the lid. :x

Hidden inflation, nothing new. I am annoyed that yogurt only comes in 6 oz. cups now.
Bought some work shirts and pants mail order years ago. I found they were cut snug and the fabric on the thin side.

Potato Chips are nothing but a large bag of air that they put a few chips into.

I agree, still trying to figure out where my holster would go..... but then recently on 'scrounge' days I've been wearing some cut off overalls and had to revert to a fanny pack with holster .... just don't like pocket carry.

As for size of things.... my wife refuses to take her Porsche Boxter to the mechanic to figure out why in the last 10 years it has shrunk. Used to be no problem getting in on the driver's side, now I pretty much have to fold myself in.

Blume it is ok to leave the buttons unbuttoned. Nothing shows anyway, if you have properly fitting overalls. Yeah, I weigh the same, but all that fat that was in my arms, legs, has gone to my abdomen, necessitating suspenders. Especially if I carry an handgun on my belt. Getting old sucks, especially if you are single. Try getting a tick off your back between the scapula (shoulder blades)! I buy a couple of Wrangler cargo pants every two years, because the black fades. Instead of camo pants I wear out the previous two years work pants. I get relaxed fit.

The big dogs that own these manufacturing companies are facing the same economic difficulties that we are; so they need the extra revenue to survive as well..... Did you ever think about how much it costs to have your LearJet washed and polished these days... ?

I wear both a belt and suspenders most of the time. A few years ago I was playing blackjack in a casino. Got a few bad hands in a row and got up fast in disgust to leave. I wasn't wearing the usual suspenders and my pants dropped to my ankles!

Yeah! I got pretty angry when I measured a .44 cal bullet and it came up .429"

Hi,

Val, did it come up 200 gr instead of 240, too? ;)

I'm just glad Mrs. Olson didn't get the memo, and Folger's coffee still comes in honest to goodness 48 oz "3 lb" cans.

Memories of my Army days! I ran the Brigade food supply for a while, and we had a piece of paper on the wall: COFFEE COMES IN 3 Lb CANS. TO CONVERT Lb TO Ea, DIVIDE BY 3.

This was because for some odd reason, coffee was listed by Lb. in the master menus, and if we were not careful, we would issue three times the amount requested. The Army rule is "Never assume. It makes an a$$ of u and me."

People assumed anyway. More than once I had to send someone to pick up cans of coffee from a mess because they requested 60 lbs and got 60 cans.
