Panic-buy a P345

Hi, from time to time I visit this nice forum and had read that the very good P345 was taken out of the Ruger sales-list. I was very surprised and disappointed with the decision of Ruger. When this gun was introduced in the market, I bought the first one here in Austria and am very satisfied with this great pistol. A vew days ago I was looking for another new KP345 but the austrian gun-market is small and insignificant- no chance to get a new KP345 here. Now I have ordered a new KP345 from our neighbors, from Germany and I´m very happy about this possibility! Unfortunately the import of this gun will cost me additionally 100 Euros, the authorities will skim money from the crazy citizens too... Now, it seems, that I will get the last new P345 in our country.
Why I need two of them? Well, I am a Ruger collector with many brandnew safe-queens and on the other hand I like shooting. For me, the P 345 is a very well, progressive designed .45 pistol and a very underrated gun. The gun ist slim, lightweight, nevertheless mild recoil and very precise. I love this gun and cannot understand Rugers decision...

I know a lot of people like the P345, but with the popularity of the striker fired SR series pistols and the introduction of the SR45, Ruger must have thought the P345 sales were slow enough to warrant its discontinued status. Enjoy your new pistol.

I had a 345 sold it and just bought the last new one my lgs had in stock. I have two p90s this one will stay a new safe queen. Nice guns. Funny though... The trigger on this new one is far better than my early one.

So is Austria a free gun country or are they like germany?

To me the 345 is one of the best 45 ACP firearms. It is light weight, DA/SA, thin and easily carried, extremely accurate and reliable. Plus, my 345 shoots any configuration of 45 ammo. Who could ask for more from a firearm?

Hi modrifle3, Austria had formerly a liberal gun-legally but in recent years the left ideology gets more and more powerful and therefore our gun laws tightened several times. But our situation is still much more easier as in Germany

Hello. Funny you mention a 345. I was in a local gun shop today and they are down to not much stock.

I was so surprised to see in the bottom of the display case a couple of P345's, brand spankin' new at a really good price. They also had 2 brand new P94's in .40

That's why I popped in here tonight, to research up on the 345. I think I will go back tomorrow and put a 345 and P94 in layaway. I already have a P94 and want another one.

So I know this is thread hijacking but with the recent evens in the US . . . many of which are just to convenient for the gun grabbers . . . they are tyring to attack the 2nd amendment. The Brits, which frankly I have little to no respect for as a whole, call us crazy nut jobs that would rather have guns than keep our children safe. To me it is the opposite. Lose your guns lose your freedom to be free. Just wondering how the rest of Europe looks at this. Some of the best guns in the world come out of Germany Austria Czech Republic Italy. Are the ideas we have so different?

Hello. I have a P345 and think it is a great all around pistol. Easy enough to carry concealed with a jacket or even a shirt that's not tucked in. Barrel is not too short, a good sight radius. Shoots anything I put in it. I like the trigger but I know that some don't.

Hi modrifle3, I think the weapons hysteria in recent times is controlled politically. Many politicians are able to generate votes from the left-wing camp. In addition, many women are against guns, they usually lack the innate fun and technical understanding for weapons. Therefore, many women are also against guns. The politicians know this and they take advantage of circumstance to attract more voters. And ordinary politicians decide so that they themselves are as long as possible up front, the thing itself is not important to them. Voters tend unfortunately more and more to the left. That's just my observation here in Austria and my personal opinion. I don´t want to insult anyone and I'm not against women!!! These are just my experiences of the last decades.

Hey airwin, that's not too far, hope we can meet someday. All the guns in my signature will be waiting for you (plus my girlfriend has a vz.61 "Skorpion" which is a funny gun, too).

Modrifle, I'm not sure what to generally say about the idea of guns here in CZ. We can have guns and along with Slovakia I guess we have the highest gun freedom around here (hope we can keep it). For some reason, we don't seem to do so much mess with guns, so there's not enough anti-gun "ammo" here. Hope it stays that way, too.

Actualy I find the local system of gun purchasing and ownership quite well made, though you guys would think of it as tyranny. I think it works fine. Just get a license, go through a little police bureaucracy and you get nearly any gun you ask for. You can carry it pretty much everywhere you go (funny thing, handguns and semi-auto rifles are in the same category - the "B" category - which are guns allowed for concealed carry. So, as long as you keep it concealed, you can carry an AK if you like to)

The system of getting a gun license here elliminates:
- former criminals (depending on their crimes, they may have to wait several years or they may be out of business for good)
- total idiots (won't be able to pass the test - consists of gun laws, medical basics, technical basics...)
- physicaly unable (medical examination, doctor may also order a psychological examination)
- possibly "technicaly" dangerous persons - unable to perform a test in gun manipulation and safe shooting
- guns have to be kept in safes (though it's not checked), which makes it hard for your kids to take them to school

Sure, none of these can assure a 100% success, but generally...it works. And I don't think of myself as being "supressed".
Can have a gun? Yes.
Can I have as many guns as I want? Yes (if I can provide enough gun saves for them).
Can I carry a gun? Yes.
Can I reload ammo? Yes.
Can I have as large magazines as I want to? Yes.
Can I have a barrel shortened? Yes.
Can I put a shoulder stock on my Glock? Yes (without any extra tax stamp and nothing like BATFE involved).

What I can't have (well, not easily) - suppressor, full-auto, laser (reason unknown, but no need for it, anyway), hollowpoint for defence (agree, it's stupid, but softpoint or FMJ works just fine), night vision scope (change ahead!). I can live with that.
