P95 issues

Ok guys just got my P95 a week ago and i'm having a few issues. Hopefully someone can give me some advice. When I insert a loaded magazine, pull the slide back and let it slide forward (i'm pulling all the way back and letting go. I'm not nursing it.) it chambers a round, but does not cock the gun.
Also, if the magazine is out and I pull back on the slide if I baby it forward the gun will cock. But there is no tension on the trigger. It pulls as if it is on safe. It's my first handgun so maybe i'm a total idiot, but what is going on :?:

You're not a total idiot, and welcome to the forum.
I think I might know what's happining. The safety on a P95 also acts as a decocker, so if you are racking the slide to chamber a round with the safety engaged(in the down position) the hammer will stay in the down position and the pistol will be decocked. If you rack the slide with the safety disengaged(in the up position) the hammer will remain in the cocked position.
Second, if I ease the slide down on mine with the safety engaged the slide won't move fully forward and prevents the pistol from decocking. A slight pressure to the rear of the slide will allow the slide to move fully forward into battery and the hammer to fall to the uncocked position.

+1 on the explanation. I agree with Gun Fan. Make sure the safety is off "in the up position" and try again.

You were right about the safety. One more question though. Now that it's racked with one in the chamber there is NO pressure on the trigger. It's like it has been fired already and just ready to go. It's a double action, so it should have resistance right?

Correct in your assumption that "it's like it has been fired already and just ready to go". Double action means pulling the trigger cocks the hammer and releases it.
Single Action simply releases the hammer from the cocked position. If you rack the slide with the safety off and cock the hammer, a lite pull of the trigger will drop the hammer and fire a round.

Some people consider the P95 a DA/SA or Double Action/Single Action gun because after the first trigger pull, the remaining pulls are single action.

If you want your gun in double action, simply push the safety lever down "on" and it will decock it. Simply push the lever back up and your in Double Action and ready to roll.

I carry a round in the chamber with the hammer down and safety off. One trigger pull away from bang.

This is funny to me now as I had the same thing happen to me when I first started shooting my P95. I got to know my gun inside and out after firing around 700 rounds through it and many thorough cleanings. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't firing either after I cocked the slide and put one on the chamber. When I finally figured it out I blurted out a big fat "DUH".
