Just got back from the range with a new P95. The first box of 115 FMJ Magtech shot without a problem. Then I tried a box of Rem . 115 FMJ and it jammed more than I have ever had a pistol jam, every round. ( FTF, FTE, stovepipes, Would not lock back on last round). Then I tried a box of Rem. 115 JHP green box and it continued to jam. Going back tomorrow with what ever I can find locally before I pass judgement on this Ruger.

Try to recreate your success. Clean the P95 and put a wee bit of lube on the rail. Buy a few more boxes of that Magtech and fire it. If you didn't clean the gun initially before firing, you likely should have.

A firm wrist hold can help the issue also. Have someone else fire it at the range if it keeps giving you issues. This gun is one of those that is effected by limp-wristing.

It's a great gun if you can get yours figured out.

Remington has been having troubles with their primers as of late. I had to send a whole pallet load back because of the batch had weak primers. Call Remington and give them your box number and batch numbers.

Kind of hard to figure out how a weak primer is going to cause those problems... I'll second wixedmords suggestions...

clean well, lube and be sure to hold the pistol tight and see what happens.

I have the same issues. Mine worked fine for quite a while but the last time I took it to the range it would not pickup consistently from the magazine. Almost seemed like the extractor was making it a bit to tight for the round to be held/ picked up.
I had not changed anything and the gun is clean.
Any suggestions.

Thanks

The P95 is one of Ruger's most reliable semis. A good cleaning, proper lubing, and good ammo will almost certainly result in a perfectly performing gun. Everybody wants to buy a gun and then feed it the absolute cheapest ammo that they can find at Walmart. This in itself is fine, but many times the cheap ammo may have issues.

Magtech used to be decent, but has recently gone WAY downhill from what I've heard. WWB, while cheap and not very accurate, is usually fairly reliable.

Buy some quality ammo and see if it works OK ... I'm talking about namebrand ammo that's about 50 cents to $1 a round .... if the gun STILL has those issues ... it needs to go back to Ruger. Ruger tests their guns with fairly expensive ammo ... simply because the cheap junk is so inconsistent.

Thanks, I have tried some different brands. I will see what the store has for High Quality rounds and go from there. I appreciate the quick reply

Back from the range a second time. I did clean the gun before each outing and I am careful not to limp wrist. Two boxes of Blazer Brass with one stove pipe and I still had 30 rounds of the Rem. green box 115 gr. jhp left and it jammed 4 times. I think I might have narrowed the locking on the last round to one of the two magazines. I did polish the feed ramp a little and maybe the gun is starting to get broke in. ( 200 rounds so far). Still not ready to bet my life on it but feeling a little better. WWB next time out. I agree and disagree with the cheap ammo. I think it should once broke in eat most everything.

I shoot WWb in my 9 MM's My .40S&W and my .45 1911 and while not match accurate i've NEVER had a ftf with 1000's of rounds of this ammo .
I have seen pics here of rounds with the mouth of the case torn ,but I've never had this problem .I buy it cause it's cheap and accurate for praticing defencive shooting ,Maybe I've ben lucky but like I said I've shot a lot of this ammo .Hard to beat 100 rounds of 230gr .45ACP for 32 bucks .

How about 100 rounds for about $14 for 230 ball, or about $10 for 100 rounds of 200 grain LSWC's ?

Gotta roll your own Lou ! :D

If you have more than 1 magazine I would suggest marking them so you can tell which is which. If the problem is magazine related it might help you figure out which one is the problem.

The only ammunition related malfunction I have had with any of my pistols was with Remington UMC. It caused a stovepipe jam in my P944. I believe it was due to an underpowered round.

I fully agree! I have enjoyed shooting even more since I roll my own. Heck, rolling 100 rounds of 44 Mag ammo (255g LSWC) for $17 (24g H110) or $13 (9.5g Titegroup) makes it even more worthwhile.

Not only does Rev mention the cost advantage, but all the powders I shoot in my P90, Bullseye, Titegroup, and HS-6, are far cleaner than WWB.

Sorry to hear about the P-95 trouble.

All the long time shooters I know say the first thing to change when having issues is the magazine. If the problem persists change ammo. Then have somebody else shoot it. And somebody that knows they don't limp wrist. If problems persist send it back.

Try and change only one thing at a time to help find the problem.

Reloading you own not only saves money but becomes a hobby of it's own. Buy a chrono and the game is on. Great fun.

Good luck with the P-95. Mine has never had maybe one FTF in 2000 rounds. Problems are rare with these guns. So Ruger should be able to fix it pronto if it comes to that and you will have a gun for life.

Sorry to hear the issues. Remington had a run last fall of their 9mm that was out of overall length wise. Caused all kinds of problems like your experiencing. I had a case of the stuff and had some of your issues with a sr9c test gun. SR ran fine on everything else. Maybe you got some of it from old stock. The 95 like most of the P family pistols is stupid reliable, boring almost. Only issues I've seen with them is poor grip (to low) and out of spec ammo.

Range update:150 rounds later things seem to be getting better. I think for the first time in a long time I got one that needed a good break in period. Both magazines lock back and only two ftf. Tried WWB and another box of Blazer brass. Maybe I got spoiled with my SR40 that eats anything I shoot in it right from the start.

Have you tried some upperend ammo yet. I sure would at least get a box of good grade ammo....

as for cheap ammo... I'll throw my 2cents in.... the best cheap ammo I've found is Georgia Arms Full Metal Jacket factory reloaded stuff....

check out the price of this stuff in bulk... 500 rounds to a can.... you can't beat it. Some of my friends went through a couple hundred rounds of this a few weeks ago with out a hickup shooting it in a P95, P89 and PC9.
