P90 Trigger

I was happy to learn how much folks here like their P90's. In my ignorance I was lucky enough to purchase one along with a MKII as my first pistols. My question is in regards to the trigger creep, gritty feel of the stock trigger as noted on so many other posts.

Other than grips, I have done no modifications to any of my guns. There are threads here that detail the polishing that can be done to alleviate the gritty P90 trigger but I am not comfortable doing it. The thought of removing too much metal thus screwing it up scares me. I have under 1,000 trouble free rounds through it and wondered, if no modification is ever done, will the trigger smooth itself out on its own? If so are we talking 5,000-10,000 rounds or more for this to occur if ever?

I've got about 6000 rounds through my P90 and the trigger feels smoth but I don't remember it ever feeling gritty. The only work I've done to it is a new recoil spring. In fact out of the 9 different Rugers I have only one has a gritty trigger. A New Model Blackhawk in .30 Carbine.

I've had my P90 since the mid 90's. It's bone stock except for the Hogue grips. The trigger, in both DA and SA, is as smoooth as any I've ever shot. It is far superior to my Beretta 92. I bought it new and the trigger was as smooth new as it is now.

I need to shoot it more maybe. I definitely feel a small abrasive sensation in a small part of the take up and then it is fine. I'll just make it my dry fire gun for a while and see if I can't smooth it out.

All my P-Series started with triggers that smoothed out a lot within a couple of months of shooting and dry-firing. I suppose that's about 500 rounds and another 600 dry-fires.

Thanks for all the replies folks. I need to start keeping better track of round counts in my guns. I know I am under 1,000 with my P90 so I am sure better feel will come with shooting and more dry fire. I was dry firing last night and I forgot how comfortable the P90 feels in my hands with the Hogue grips.

I stopped counting with my P90 several years ago. At that time it was over 4,000. Trigger pull is very nice, especially in single action (hammer back). Even in DA it's pretty darn nice.

I don't recall it being overly gritty when new but it's one of the nicer da/sa trigger pulls I've used.

I'd say shoot it a lot. The P90 is a tough pistol designed to take a lot of round and keep right on working.

I have two .45's; a P90 and a Brasilian-contract 1917 S&W. The double-action pull is about equal on both, smooth and even. Sadly, the Ruger single-action can't match the light, glass-sharp trigger on the old Smith. Still, it's very good.
