is there supposed to be ANY play before you feel spring tension? I had an ammo malfunction(case bottom came off) and after clearing it wouldnt eject the empties untill I lubed it. It was dirty but not terribly so. I cleaned and lubed it today but couldn't make it to the range. Should I not fire this?? Or just pack it up and send it to Ruger?? Or just change the extractor spring?? The play it it is like .010.

The extractor is just a piece of metal that is bent slightly with a little hook at the end to "grab" the shell. Look at some other gun pictures from google or something and compare to yours. I would think there wouldn't be any "play" but .010 is pretty small.

Post pictures of your gun for more advise.

Went to the range this am and shot 40 rounds of hollowpoint with no problems. This thing is a tank! Thinking of selling it tho a little too big for me

Ok..sent the beast to Ruger 12 days ago and have yet to hear a peep from them. I know they got it,I got the confirmation fromUPS. How long should I wait before I call them?? Anyone ever have problems with Ruger repairs???

When i sent them my p89, they sent it back in 2 weeks without any phone call ,just a short note about the repair.
The p85 is a pretty rare gun , i wouldn't sell it they are nice range plinkers and you'll never find another one in Mass. After the 1998 gun control act, ruger stopped selling p series guns in mass.

Well..Just got mt P85 back today and I have to say I'm impressed. On top of replacing the extractor and spring for free they also replaced the worn front sight, gave me a ruger lock and an owners manual! Like you said Mr Mike no call it just showed up!! It was like Christmas in June!! They have the funkiest smelling lube I ever smelt! I'm a true Ruger fan now!

they stopped selling new p series guns after 1998.All the ones for sale are used.

Interesting. Gotta love it when legislation controls demand....NOT :x

Welcome to Massachusetts!!. It all started here but the "profesional polititions" restrict firearms for "our own good". And to think part of the revolutionary war was about Britan taking arms away from the colonists......makes one wonder..
