P345 no fire issues

I bought a P345 off a friend at work who is an avid handgun person and owner. He had only put 100rnds through it and was his nightstand queen.

I have since put another 150 or so rnds through it. I have talked to the friend i bought it from, a few other people and of course a guy at the gun store near my house about my issue.

So to the issue at hand...roughly out of every 50rnds I put through it I get between 3-5 no fires. I keep the gun well lubed, clean and well taken care of.

I have 3 theories on what could be the problem but wanted some more insight from some people that know more about Ruger's. 1) the gun is still under its break in point. 2) The ammo used has been 185grain so I am going to try 230grain to see if it is an ammo issue not a gun issue (I am going shooting friday so we'll see what happens). 3) could be an issue with carbon/oil buildup in the firing pin housing.

Hi and welcome to RF. Search CLICK NO BANG and/or look at a few recent threads about the P345. Your pistol has most likely been dry fired without a mag in which damages the firing pin blocker. Ruger will probably fix it for you N/C.

Sorry you're having this problem but the P345 requires you to play by it's rules.

This is a design issue .... tons of reading here on the forum about it.

Good luck. Ruger will fix it ... again and again ... unfortunately, until you 'clean the rear sight'.

well i took my P345 to my friend on thursday. he checked it out, figured it couldn't be anything that i mentioned i thought could be wrong with it.

we found there was a barrel issue. the rim on the barrel right above the feed ramp was too shallow so the rounds wouldn't load full battery at times causing the no fire problem. so he did a little dremel and polish work to it. took it to the range the next day and put 100rnds through it without one no-fire. problem solved.

i would post a pic of what he did but my gun is out getting a custom leather holster made and i will have it back early this week.

yeah im glad that it was just as easy as that. I was hoping i wouldn't have to send it to Ruger to get fixed.

I got her back and her is a pic of what my friend did. hopefully you can kind of see the dremel/polish work on the lip of the barrel above the feed ramp.

Good, I'm glad it's fixed.

I love my P345 and shoot it often.

Dry firing w/o a mag is never a problem for me as I always use a snap cap in all of my guns.

You still need a mag in the gun ..... unless the mag disconnect has been removed.

Rev, if the mag disconnect was removed, will that correct a suspect gun or will it still need to go back to Ruger for repair?

The mag is how I get the snap cap into the gun. :lol:

This is a old habit that has been with me forever.

It can possibly damage the firing pin, the mag disconnect catches on ledge of the pin and can mar/weaken the pin where it thins down to a slimmer profile.

This dry firing thing only applies to the P345 correct or would this apply the same for a P89?
