I told my niece I just wanted to something today that I did not have to do. Just wanted to take a drive. So we left tis morning and drove up to Chaikasaw State Park near Jackson, Tennessee. Sort of loafed around the lake there then drove over to Jackson for lunch. A few years ago, like maybe thirty or thirty five, Nita and I had eaten a few time at a place called Brooksies' Barn. Not sure I could fine it but did, despite the changes. I noticed a mega curch now stood where the horse pasture was, and the pace we were looking for was sort of off benind it. But I did find it, seems I never forget a place with good barbecue! The place was truly an old barn, ans there were big windows overlooking a small lake to add to our enjoyment. But now there was a residential neighborhood just beyond the lake. Then drove back a diffeent route to complete the day.

Being retired is nice.

My wife complains about eating out too often, saying we are taking in far too many calories lately. But having a destination for lunch is my favorite way to take a motorcycle ride. I can enjoy just going out on my bike and meandering around country roads for an hour or two, but a better way to do it is to go an hour and two to a good place to eat. Then after a leisurely lunch, taking an hour or two on a different route to get home. That always feels like a day well spent. Sadly, we lost a number of our favorite destinations when Covid caused so many places to go out of business and not return when the pandemic ended.

Bob-I’m only 8 miles from Chickasaw. Haven’t been to Brooksie’s in a while. Best BBQ is on US 45 North of Henderson at Hunt’s Tennessee BBQ.

This in my niece. She is the youngest daughter of my middle sister. I have made her the executor of my estate, and she has been a very helpful support to me since the death of Nita. She is retired from FedEx and is able to accompany me on our jaunts.

There is a restaurant in a south/west suburb of Cleveland that is a very big barn. Although I never want to go back to Cleveland, I'd like to see if that old barn is still there. They had the best steaks.

We went for a drive for about 2weeks road trip I would say there was a restaurant between Arizona and Utah best steak I ever had in my life even save a picture of it

One of the parts of Ranger training was to never return on the same route you went out on... works just as well for peaceful road trips....

finding that same restaurant after so many years is pretty amazing... not just finding it but that it was still there.
Hey Blume - I had known a Viet Nam Vet, They would send him out alone thru the jungle to knock off Very important people, I asked him how did he get away each time? He told me he had to run out.
