Only one gun

So if you could only have one firearm what would it be ? Been going through some financial down turns and slowly my once modest collection are down to three. I've been wanting another Blackhawk (convertible 357/9mm), had a Lipsey's flattop and foolishly sold it and have a chance at trading a Glock 9 for your standard Blackhawk 357. Still down to only three (a shotgun and my old man's Taurus 66). In my ponderance of letting go of the Glock for the Ruger I was curious as to what some others may do.

My first handgun after trying several at the gun store/range was a 4" GP-100 in 357 mag. Never regretted that purchase. I also got some single-actions after that.

I'll agree with this.. I would rather have a GP-100 any day, versus a Glock.. No GP-100? I'll take the Blackhawk. Almost any revolver is better to me than a Glock.. Except a Taurus of course.. Shot a Taurus once.. Didn't impress me none when the barrel followed the bullet downrange..

Dougader, Only one gun for everything. The old Taurus 66 has a habit of the extractor jumping on top of the spent case so I rule it as unreliable for that reason (not always but some of the time). I like the Blackhawk convertible because it can run 3 calibers that I already have.

Same here, an OM 4-5/8" to be exact...and yep, I've still got it.
Probably not the best at doing any one thing, but it can do a lot of different things purty-dern well. That said though, if it were still the only gun I had these days, finding/fitting a 9MM cylinder would be way-up on my list of priorities.

Lots to be said for a shorty .38/.357 or a 4 5/8" Old Model Blackhawk .357. But "which one?" is a question I'll never answer! 8)

I have been asked or read about people asking about ONLY 1 gun and what should it be. There is never a answer that is right. So, I am going to answer this by saying I would never only have 1 gun ever.

To the OP, in your situation, I'd keep the Glock. It isn't pretty, but it is the best for the life most lead.

However, since some have turned this into a "only one gun" thread and brought up other designs and calibers, were I to have only one there is not question. M1911-A1. Yep, a good old plain GI M1911-A1. No bells and whistles. Only one caliber choice available.

Have to agree here...depending on what you're planning to do with it. When you specify "everything" I'd likely stay with Ruger as you have wider variety of loads.

I have many guns but my bare minimum would be a 22 rifle, a 12 gauge pump shotgun, a center-fire rifle, a pocket pistol plus a OC center fire revolver and also a .22 handgun. Then we could debate on make and models and calibers of all them. Thats a minimum of six guns.

Every GI M1911-A1 I ever saw was in .45 acp. So yea, it starts with a .4. Yes, I know that technically the ones made in .455 for the Brits were "GI", but I've never seen one in person.

How much of a "Hi cap" can a 1911 be? 7+1 isn't very hi-cap in my mind.

Of your three I would keep the shotgun. You can do pretty much anything with it except concealed carry. For that, I would keep the Glock.

Yup. "Which one" is an answer that changes every day. Right now, I'd keep my S&W snub nosed .357.

It's actually kinda cool that so many folks on this forum like revolvers. I love my semi-automatics, but revolvers have a soul.

I'd have to have a gun to my head to give up all but one gun. That said, from a semi-objective standpoint, a 4" .357 revolver would be the logical choice, especially when combined with a reloading press and dies. Use it with .38 wadcutters to take small game, .357 hollowpoints for serious social work, and heavy lead slugs to take deer for the pot. It's a bit large, but can be carried concealed. Lots of choices for leather, speedloaders, grips, etc., and ammo is everywhere. It may not be the "best" choice for anything, but it's "good enough" for more applications than any other.

I believe the question was if you can HAVE only one gun not how many you can carry or have access to.
