On the stage again.....................

I am in our cantata at church next Sunday night. I play an ornery old shoe store owner who won't listen to a daughter who tries to lead him to the Lord. I have a lot of grumpy lines and a bout with the local mayor.

This is the first cantata we've done in several years. Over the years I've played a preacher, a doctor, an aloof doctor who gets killed in a plane crash, and a business owner who sort of narrates a story.

Looking back these are fun, but do sort of get to be work during the practices. The woman who is the director is really talented. She gets the script then brings the dramatic parts to life and "dreams" up the sets. The very first play I was in at this church, her husband manipulated the lights. This time her grandson manipulates the lights!

And, oh yeah, she cautioned me not to wear my Ruger Blackhawk during the performance!

Sounds like great fun Bob! I found out at a very young age that I could blend in with an orchestra on stage (I was a flute player) with only mild bouts with fear, trepidation and loathing. But any form of acting (with or without music) was not my dish.

Any chance anyone might video the performance?

Did you ask her if she is going to provide protection for you?

Her husband, and my good friend, is head of security at my church. And yes, they are all trained as security guards and are armed. In fact, he can sit at his home and monitor every section of our church. They have motion activated cameras 24/7. I have sat in at times on Sunday morning in the security office and monitored the cameras. I don't have a Glock 9mm which is required for our guards, so don't patrol.

P.S. Their daughter, who is also in the cantata with me, also packs a .40 of some kind. And her son-in-law, daughter's husband, packs a .45 Colt Ruger Vaquero. If I remember correctly, his .45 sports grips marked "CLC".

Not sure, but here is the last one I did back in 2011. The lady narrating here plays my daughter in the current one. The gun in the shooting scene is my Uberti Stallion .22. The white haired "preacher" in the closing scenes is yours truly, the one without hair is a real preacher, and my pastor.

Thank you so much for sharing that video. That's quite a production!! And what a story of salvation! Ya'll put on a wonderful show. I hope others will watch and take the message with them.

Well, it's done! Was at church last night at 4:30 pm and ran through the cantata then had the performance at 6:00p.m. We had a good crowd, probably as many, or maybe more, as a Sunday morning service. We blew a few lines but everybody had presence of mind enough to ad lib and keep the scene going smoothly. Our choir was superb in the musical parts and it was a great cantata all around.

I was plumb tuckered out when I got home last night.
