As I have said, I've been following the Ken Burns series on Country Music. I relate to that as I grew up on old country music.

I had an uncle, my mother's brother, who lived near Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. He lived away from town on a farm. A creek flowed by in front of his house, and a path lay alongside the creek, between his house and the creek. He had an old farmhouse, the front porch was maybe three and a half feet high.

On Sundays, my cousin's wife would prepare a big dinner, and folks coming from church along that path could stop and take dinner at my uncle's house. And, after eating, a singin' would break out and they would stand around and sing old gospel songs. There was a foot-pedal organ in the front bedroom, and they would open the window and play that organ. Also several men had guitars or fiddles so they would join in.

Also, on Sunday nights the preacher would be at another church, so church members would just gather for a night time singing.

That was my exposure to country music!

Been watching it too. Ken Burns does good work.

Hi,

I learned long ago that I can learn something from just about everybody I meet. When I watch Ken Burns, I learn a LOT of somethings, even if he's just being interviewed about making his latest film!

In the 1970s episode he left out an important person.

Lets say its 1975 and you are a honky tonk singer and you make the cover of Time magazine with the headline, "King of Honky Tonk".
At that time that would be something.
With Burns always mentioning honky tonk and outlaw country he was remiss in not mentioning Gary Stewart.
