OM .357/9mm

Talked to a guy today who is selling a OM .357/9mm convert for his mother. It is from his fathers and he claims the gun is unfired. Now it gets interesting, he says the gun is nickle plated except for the grip frame and ERH which are still black anodized. The last "nickle plated" single six I ran into turned out to be In The White which I expect this to be.

I haven't seen the gun so don't know it it is a short or long bbl or a non or prefix gun. First question is did the factory ever do any plated BKH-34X or 36X guns? Second something like this be valued, along the line of a standard shooter, or less?

The Factory Plated Blackhawks are Flattops. There aren't but a handful of them, either.

These kinda guns can command decent prices when the "right person" comes along. I my experience, though, the values are right along with the "shooter grade" stuff.

One never knows, you would have to contact 'records" get any and all info as to 'plating' notation for that serial number gun...I know we have had and have seen LOTS of guns that were 'plated' and have YET to get a factory verificationj letter for one...the ones that were 'plated' are well documented by various authors over the years...............many times when the 'seel' was aftually 'plated' the aluminum parts were just bufedf & polished, to remove the anodizing, so they too would be "in the white" to match the rest of the gun......sounds neat, I'd only question the price....................

As I said I haven't yet seen the gun so don't have the SN or bbl length. There is no illusion this gun would letter. The guy should be over tomorrow on another gun so I was just looking for some thoughts on how to value this type of gun. I figured it would be just a shooter. I asked about the box and he said he thought it was in a red box, but was very adamant it is a 3 screw. Will know more tomorrow.

There's a Plated OM .45 Blackhawk out there someplace. It has a plugged hole in the top strap.

I couldn't get the thing to hit the broad side of a barn so traded it off on a Freedom Arms mini revolver...

As I recall, there are a LOT of plated OM Rugers in Arizona

Finally saw this gun and sure enough it is a high polish, in the white, except for the grip frame, ERH and front and rear sights NEW MODEL. The 580.00 was a bit unnerving, I pased.
