Old roundball mould

I picked this up at a thrift shop for only a couple of bucks, not sure of the age of it, pretty sure its .36 (.310 diameter rattles around in it a little) has only the number for a marking. Pretty neat though and since I intend to get a repro 1851 Navy someday it would make me some nice lead round balls.

It's called a bag mold because in olden days it was packed in ones shot pouch. The number relates to how many balls per pound of lead you can cast from it.

Very cool. Do you just scoop it into the lead to fill it or do ya have to have a pouring tool?

Lead was melted in a small ladle over the campfire and poured into the mold. A small scissor like device on the handle was used to cut off the sprue and that in turn was trimmed off with a knife. Been there, done that.
