How can you tell by looking if a Blackhawk is an Old model or a New model?

The old model has 3 screws in the frame; the new model has 2 pins.

Just remember,, that even if it has the 3 screws,, it could have been sent back to the factory for the NM lockwork. Once you see the 3 screws,, I carefully pull back the hammer. If the hammer is flat faced,, then I know it's still an original OM.

A safety-revised Old Model lockwork is NOT a "new model" action. It's still Old Model, just retarded :).
Seriously, the OM revision to add a safety was a mess that only Rube Goldberg could love. The NM action is fundamentally better and stronger than a safety-revised OM action.
Most of us on this forum would agree that an OM Ruger is better "un-converted" and carried five-up, hammer down on empty like a real Colt.

The new model states "New Model" on the frame. It don't get much easier than that.
