The last few months ive been all over the place with the choice of the net fire arm purchases....

It wont be the Governor or the .45 convertable... Its gonna be the .357/9mm convertable. And m question is this....

What is the difference between the old and new models action. I have a heritage single action and it has half cock and full cock position, all with a safety to flip and i know rugers dont have the safety..... Are the new models able to do half cock position for use when loading or whenever needed?

Thanks for helping clear things up guys

while this link is normally provided for grip frame info, it also contains a timeline for other changes.

the '72/'73 row will provide some insight to the changes

i can say that New Models (BH, SBH, Vaqueros) do not have a half cock position..........except maybe the beearcat has one.

hope this helps

Old Model: A Colt SAA with very strong components. Zero safety except in the mind of the shooter.
New Model: ODD FUNCTIONING Lockwork....., until one gets "used to it". The design is INCREDIBLE, a reflection of the genius of one Wm. B. Ruger. No half cock on the New Model Ruger. Non needed.

To answer your question on a Internet Forum is a difficult endeavor. The answer lies in personal experience.

My question is this.... why a .357 when the "big bores" are so much more able to deal with any "task at hand"?

Bottom line? Do NOT make any decisions until you've had an opportunity to shoot several examples! All the reading of magazines, web articles, and listening to "experts" talk doesn't mean squat. Test fire reasonable examples of what you think you are interested in......

Me? First test was with .357 mag. Nah, not what I wanted. Now my favorites are the .32 and the .44's and .45's..... :D

Thanks for the responses...

Flatgate... I want the .357 model due to the firearms a currently own.. While i am young i dont have the space for reloading, whcih i want to get into when i am able comfortable with the process. With the .357 i will be able to take the cheaper .38 and 9mm cartidges out to shoot and other than my 1911 all i own are .357s, .38s, 9mms, and of course .22's. By having the .357 convert ill be able to shoot all my guns while going through a few boxes.

But i will say that some day i will have a bisley model .44. I have had the oppurtunity to shoot one of the 5.5 inch model and did like it... I think i like the sheriffs model is apperance the most tho, just does something special for me i guess.

It all comes down to what you will use thai firearm for and how much recoil can you comfortably handle.

If one has not shot hand guns Much! I would start with the 22 to learn what feels good & learn to shoot properly it is alot cheaper on ammo & get your proper way you need to control your self to shoot effectively......IMHO
