Old Model Super S/N

Am I missing something here? Yesterday at the show I found an old model Super Blackhawk that had a 5 digit non-prefix serial number starting with a zero. I didn't write it down and my memory is poor, but I believe it started 012xx. I would think that it would be 102xx. Am I wrong and if not, how rare would it be? I may see it again in a couple of weeks at another show.

I double checked and it was definitely a zero. Hopefully, it will be at the next show a couple of weeks from now....

The only guns that Ruger made that started with a zero were the first Red Eagles. They started with 0001 to 0660. Then they skipped to serial number 2000. As far as has been reported no other guns that Ruger made started with a zero at the beginning of the serial number. We would sure like to see a picture of that gun, if possible.

My guess is the 1st digit of the S/N is missing. Only Ruger knows for sure.

I've got a 44 Carbine with the 100-prefix except it is stamped 1 0-.

I also know of an M77 serial number 70- 4478D and I sent a picture off to the next ROCS Journal of a Single-Six serial number 09539, probably made under the same circumstances as that Super you saw. I verified the Single-Six should have been 20-09539 from the variety of rollmark on the left side of the cylinder frame.

I'm not chet15 but from what I've seen ...... it's more of an oddity than something adding any real (serious) value. Even with "D" guns and "S" guns and other quirks that exist out there ...... it's a very limited audience of collectors.

...as they say, " a picture is worth a thousand words..." would really help to actually "see" ( ascertain) the layout of the numbers, the spacing, how hard hit ( stamped/rollmarked) or if polished out, overrun from agressive polishing during any refinish, maybe even a "restamped" number from 'whomever', and on and on...yessir, very 'subjective'.. 8) :roll: :wink:

Well, as I said, I hope to see it again on the 18th. I will ask if it is okay to take a pic. I am no longer a collector per say, so I won't buy it. I will however get contact info for those interested.
