A buddy told me to make an offer on this old shooter. He just doesn't shoot it. It was given to him by his brother. It's hard to make out anything in the photo, and it does have some dings and no mag. Don't know what to offer as I have no idea of an approx value? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I'd offer him 100 bucks :) It looks like about a 1967 model by the SN... Magazines are easy enough to get. Take it apart, give it a good thorough cleaning & away you go!

Just be sure to draw the bolt back and inspect the receiver & barrel before you make any offer... If someone has had it apart & put the thing together incorrectly, the firing pin can over-travel & damage receiver/barrel assembly.

Looking at the "hack marks" on the left side of the receiver just in front of the bolt ear and the marks in the rectangular piece in the grip frame (sorry, I do not know what this part is called) just to the rear of the safety, it looks like someone was beating on the gun in an incorrect attempt to take it apart. I would have some concerns about this and question how the gun was treated and how it functions.
Also it is a "standard", not a Mark 1. It might be an OK shooter or it might not function at all. Good luck.

As noted, it looks as though somebody tried to "fix" it with a very large hammer, a chisel, and a crowbar. I'd say it's about a $100 gun if it works.

to my old eyes looks like the rear of reciever is jacked up off the frame a bit too

I noticed that too... but the pin seems to be fully engaged, so it is perhaps just an optical illusion due to shadows. ????

EDIT - Upon closer scrutiny... You may be right. What a shame if so! Those things are just not that difficult to get apart that anyone should be stickin' them in a vice!
