I picked up a 1965 Bearcat today. Needs complete ejector rod housing, rod, spring and screw. Will one from a new model Bearcat work? Where to find parts?
thanks

Parts are Ruger in New Hampshire, (603) 865-2442. I just bought a long list for my stainless Bearcats. All those parts will run about $50 with shipping. A '65 would have an aluminum housing, as current ones do. I can't tell you for sure about current parts fitting a '65. Anyone know best about these NM parts fitting OMs?

Thanks for the reply. I tried Jack First gunshop, old model uses same parts as new model according to Ruger. They had parts in stock and they are on the way.

I've noticed that New Bearcats have a small tab at the top of the gate. Old Models have no tab. That is the only difference I can see. The newest new models have a .2 inch longer barrel, but that did not change the ejector housing. Longer barrel is because of a Canadian law that you can only hunt with a barrel over 4 inches.

The New Bearcats utilize a longer cylinder than do the Bearcats. The .22 mag. cartridge was chambered for a while. I believe the longer cylinders were used as a simple way to prevent an early gun from firing the .22 mag. cartridge.

Now, I certainly know that some early Bearcats were convertied to .22 mag, however I'd not hesitate to state that SR&Co. would not condone such work.

I knew that when they dropped the convertible New Models, they kept the longer frame and cylinder. Didn't list it as a part difference because Ruger will not sell those.

bearcatter,

You are correct. Ruger won't sell barrels and cylinders. Period. Rats!
Oh, and, yup, Ruger dropped the Mag New Bearcats pretty soon after introduction. I managed to "corral up" a few....
