I've been looking, with no success, but what and where is the number on the blued steel Old Army Grip Frame? XR3-Red for the Blackhawk aluminum grip frame but what about the old army? Thanks!
The old model grip frame in blue steel with the wide trigger slot used only on the post 1985 Old Army is # XRN-3.
The # is usually at the very bottom of the right side of the grip frame: XRN is in the left corner and the -3 is closer to the right corner. Some show clear and some are very faint. Occasionally the # does not show at all because it's not prominent on the wax model used to make the mold.
Thanks Hondo! So, what I have, a blue steel grip frame that fits my Blackhawk and accepts XR3-Red grip panels but has no markings, most likely is a Ruger Old Army grip frame?
That's correct, if it's an old model grip frame with wide trigger slot and a hole in the back of the trigger guard for the old model style trigger return plunger and spring.
