Got tired of waiting.

So a Colt Gold Cup Trophy followed me home tonight. Pictures when I have some good light and find the battery to my camera.

Can't wait to try it.

My guess is you will like it. I have a "few" Gold Cups, both National Match guns and Trophys. If new my guess is it cost you a wee bit more than an SR1911.

Yeah, a bit. I had to raid my "Dan wants an M1A" account to buy it. Now I have to start all over on that National Match Springfield.

So many guns. So few $$.

I haven't been able to get hold of a SR1911, and my wife's distributors don't have 'em, either. I had my mind made up and went in looking for a Springfield Range Officer but decided to drop the coin for a Colt instead. It's the only Colt we have in the safe.

I shot it on Monday and I can't believe the tight groups. I did have to make some adjustments to the rear sight. The first 20 rounds were way low and left. But the groups were really tight, with the holes generally all touching each other. Several clicks to move the groups up and to the right and it was time to go.

I didn't have a camera but after I got the rear sight close, I put 4 colored sticky dots (3/4" diameter) on a piece of paper and shot at it from 7 yards (I think; the range doesn't have markings for distance). The dots were obliterated and the few holes that weren't close were my own fault.

128 rounds through it that day. Had 2 failures to go to battery in the first 40 rounds, but a light touch with my thumb fixed it each time. After that, no problems.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna like it. The "One Ragged Hole" drill will be a lot easier on my next trip to Front Sight. So will the hostage targets and the "Man on Man" competition.

I feel your pain.I had to sell and do some horse trading to pay for my M1A "loaded"
and though I miss my Remingtion M-700 SPS in .308 and my Armalite A.R.15 I don't regret it.I'd been wanting an M1A since Iwas a kid,took me 30 years to get one but I got it .

Congratulations on your buy. I also got tired of waiting for an SR1911, especially since the gun store chain here in Houston seemed to be the only folks getting them in. They are selling them "on sale" for $799. Anyway, I gave into a Springfield Armory MilSpec. Overall, it has very good build quality, except that the trigger feels a little rough. In fact, the old unmolested Remington Rand I keep locked away has a much better trigger. I can shoot 1/2" smaller groups with the loose old warhorse! The solution is fairly simple, but it is a shame that it can't at least match an old G.I. out of the box.

So just put a trigger job on that MilSpec ... it'll be fine. Or just keep shooting it and the trigger will get better.

I've never seen a bad Colt Gold Cup. They pretty much all shoot incredibly.

It'll get better as you get more used to it. I shoot only 200 grain SWC's out of mine with a light charge of 231. They're very refined weapons. They'll shoot the doors off most 1911's costing far more, and they're only about $200 more than an SR1911 at MSRP.

Finally, a chance to catch my breath from all the travel, and a little time for some photography. (OK, so my camera ain't so hot.)

Although I recently picked up a new Ruger SR1911 for $599, my 2010 GCT, lightly shot with box and papers was $750. Sorry I had to loose the wrap arounds and put some wood stocks I ordered from Colt on it.

The SR1911 is no Gold Cup, but it is impressive.

I had a polished stainless Gold Cup that I foolishly traded for a Glock 21 and some cash. Not my best moment.
