How do these two go together?

Well, I tore my calf muscle Saturday night at work moving a entry door stand. They are made to support about 1000 people I think. Anyway I am on OJI for at least a week. This means you may be hearing a lot from me because I am bored.

Now, with that said I have an AR I have been stockpiling parts for and intend to build it in the next few days. Most everything is from BravoCompany, why, I love their stuff. I shoot ambi. and they offer the ambi parts I need. The lower guts are going to be Del-Ton other then the safety and charging handle. The upper was built from BCM parts and is quite awesome. The buttstock is an Ergo F93. So The best BCG/Charging Handle/Guts, I have to find a good lower. I have a few in mind and I might go local.

Advice, I pretty much have the idea that if they are forged and machined I am fine as long as they are a quality machine shop. FYI, I will have about $1500 in it when I am done. The BCG was $169. I hope it is worth it?? We will see. I decided to build a really good one so every little thing matters. I will probably end up with a better trigger.

Thanks:

Karl

Hi,

Karl, the only advice I have has nothing to do with the AR. It's simply this: try to preserve your legs! Between tearing one up and getting snake bit (same one or other one?), it doesn't sound like you're treatin' 'em so well this week! Recover quickly, and best of luck with the AR build, too!

Take it easy Karl. I tore a tendon in my heel on my right foot a month ago. I have done the cortisone treatment to no avail. I ice it up every night. I take anti-inflammatories by the handfull and still no relief. Now the doc wants to inject cortisone into the heel.

My problem is I can't sit still. Yesterday I bucked up a fallen oak tree and stacked it for splitting. Today I intend to blade the driveway. Prior to that I took the Grandkids to a week long Winnebago Rally, the County Fair for a day, and a three day trip to Duluth. Trying to keep up with them was a Rosie O'Donnell, but I did it and now in one more week school starts. :D :D

I know, I know. I am my own worst enemy, but they are only little once. After school starts I will get the shot and take a week off. Maybe I should work on a gun. :D

OMG Karl, now we have to babysit you as well? :). Just teasing! I plan to join the retired club in November. The AR sounds like a good project that will keep you occupied, but let you heal. We are here for ya buddy!

Karl I hope your leg or legs get healed up soon. It sounds like you're going to have a really nice rifle when you get done. Let us know how it turns out.

Cooperhawk, you need to either get a walking cast put on that leg to immobilize it, or get a surgical repair. Personally, I would opt for a definitive surgical repair. I tore my left Achilles tendon years ago, got a good surgical fix, and it hasn't bothered me since.

First mistake: Lost job no insurance, no biggie paid summer supposed to be called back, moved side by side fridge couldn't quite get wife and daughter to understand that I needed help to break over on the hand truck, I did it severing left achilles tendon in the process.
Second mistake: Just thought I twisted it went to county clinic "your diabetic", "I know but I can't walk" over and over finally "Go see this podiatrist" I do she says "I can operate you'll be on your feet in a couple days, big bucks or I can put you in a cast much cheaper" I say "cast".
Outcome: Three and one half months later casts come off "Don't bend over and pick anything up or mow grass for thirty days. Bye now!" Can't walk worth a **** leg's half the size of good one stairs are a joke, no more motorcycles and if I'm on the ground good luck getting up. Worst is can't feel **** till almost my knee.
Well I'm ruined, get lawyer can't sue something about reduced rates good samaritan. Now on S.S. disability through lawyers efforts.
Moral: Careful you'd be surprised how much you miss being able to motorvate, **** the dollars get it fixed right and fast. Oh he's got it made money wise, yeah right try it some.

Big Rack: I am not going to milk this thing but I am going to make sure I get fixed. My leg is black and blue now, doc. said it would be. I have to go to a company doctor next week but I will not be bullied. It will be fixed, if the doc. balks I'll just ask him if wants to fly on a limping airplane.

The lower receiver is the gun, pay what you need to pay to get what you want. Any particular roll mark you like ? I look at the seam on the front of the magwell as well as the seam on the rear of the receiver just above the pistol grip. Of the readily available lowers the Smith and Wesson were always finished exceptionally well and one of my last ARs was built on an Anvil Arms Alaskan receiver the are rather rare and no longer in business. Most of the receivers are well made some cosmetically nicer than others.

Ended up going with the Aero-Precision blank lower. The LGS should have it soon, I hope. Update on the leg, it is a gorgeous color of mustard yellow, purple, black and I still can't bend my foot when I walk. I have to go to the company doctor tomorrow, thinking they do an MRI to make sure there is no permanent damage.

YouTube will be your best friend.

I have watched many videos on how to do assorted projects with the AR15 platform.

Heck, that is how I started reloading. I dislocated my ankle and was home for about a month. Watched and learned my way into reloading 45 ACP.

Good luck and keep us posted on how the build is coming.

Hope you heal fast...

Be careful, there are alot of ~ as Red Foreman would say ~ Dumbasses who post videos online... not all of them know what they are doing but that doesn't keep them from amassing a following.
