I get a daily email (it seems) from Vet Friends, with offers of all sorts of veteran themed items. I guess because I bought a hat with "Vietnam Veteran" on it awhile ago. I am forever on their mailing list (the hat, by the way, was quite nice and reasonably priced). But today's email featured, among other items for sale, baseball caps embroidered with "WWII Veteran". Made me think that even the very youngest veterans of that war are now at least 90, and wondered how many of these hats they could sell. I wish they offered a hat for WWI veterans, or even Spanish American War veterans. I would buy one, wear it, and wait for people to question how a 72 year old man could possibly be a WWI, let alone a Spanish American War veteran. But most people are so totally ignorant of history (I was actually asked by a young man if the Vietnam War and the Korean War were the same thing!) that probably no one would blink an eye at such a hat on my head. My grandkids seem to think I knew Abe Lincoln personally, so maybe I shouldn't be too critical of our ignorant citizenry.

Trust me, Vito; I don't think most people know enough history to doubt a claim about WWI or the Spanish American War. Once I was sitting with a bank officer providing proof of my veteran's status so I could get free checking. Just for fun, I added that I was with Teddy Roosevelt on his charge up San Juan Hill. I got a little bit of a funny look, but no questions.

Their prices seem quite high. I got a Vietnam Veteran hat on Amazon for under 10 bucks and they sell the exact same hat for over 20 bucks.

I have one that says, "Dysfunctional Veteran...Medicated for Your Protection" somewhere around the house.
Got it at the VA Hospital canteen in San Francisco.

Gunny: I don't wear much USMC stuff but I do wear one old piece that I switch from hat to hat. One of my old dress blue collar devices. I actually am amazed at how many people notice it and question me about it and my service. It catches me off guard every once in a while when someone will give me a Semper Fi. Kind of makes my day.
