Today was range day for me, so took this old Super Blackhawk out for some exercise:

Entering the day in my log book noticed that it stands around 13, 280 rounds fired through it.

And this .45 needed some exercise, too:

While not used as much as the .44, it stands over 10,000 rounds fired.

And both did me proud. The old .44 is just an old friend. And they do draw a few compliments on their looks!

Right now I'm shooting a .45 Colt load of 6.5 grs. HP-38 with a 255 gr. cast SWC (Missouri Bullet Co.) and in the .44 Magnum its 10.0 grs. HS-6 with the 240 gr. coated SWC, also from Missouri bullet Co. These target loads for range practice.

My pet load .44 Magnum load was a 240 gr. JHP with 20.5 grs. of 2400, favorite heavy .45 load was 20.0 grs. of IMR-4227 loaded with a 350 gr. cast RNFP bullet. These be hunting loads.

HS-6 is a good powder. I use it often in .357, .41M, .44M, and .45C. On your heavy loads, I load the same as you. AA#9 is also a good powder to load. I bought 2 lbs of it last week. $35.00 per lb.

I neglected one of my all-time favorite .44 loads: a 245 gr. cast SWC loaded with 25.0 grs. of IMR-4227. This was with the old DuPont IMR-4227. This clocked right on 1400 f.p.s. and was very accurate our of my Super Blackhawks.
