I drove down to Southaven, Mississippi today for some reloading supplies and Hoppe's No. 9. So the day being a fine clear cool day, Nita decided to go along for the drive to Sportsman's Supermarket.

As we stopped at an intersection, we observed a man at the corner, begging. For effect, he had his dog with him. The dog was a medium mutt, short haired with flop ears, sort of cream colored with brown mingled in.

But the dog was wearing fake tortoise-shell sunglasses, which fit him pretty well. As a car eased by, the dog would lift a paw in a begging gesture.

Nita said, "You better have some money out if we come back this way."

As it happened, we didn't.

I always wonder why a guy would spend so much time on getting their act down to beg for money. Well I do know why, they do not want to work. If anyone on here wants to help them. Go to the areas near they stand and beg. Pickup all the food that was given to them. That after the nice person drives away it ends up tossed in the brush nearby along with poop and needles and empty booze bottles.

I live in Wheeling West Virginia, Ohio County. It's upsets me that there are 3 Guy's that get dressed up in Military Camos. Stand in the same spot at least 5 times a week hoping someone will hand them some Money. I know several people that know them and they all swear that 2 of them have no Military service at all. The clothing they wear can be purchased at several retail stores in the area and as far as I know they don't tell you the they had any, but they sure don't tell you that didn't. But the people that know them swear they have seen them wipping out a nice hand full of cash at the store to buy Beer, Smokes, Wine etc. There I have completed my Vent.

I saw a guy begging out front of Wallyworld. "Will work for food!" Later that day I saw the same guy in TSC filling 2 carts! Got in his newer than mine Ford f150!

I don't mind helping truly needy people. It's my nature. But I've seen so much scamming I am now hardened. Saw a pickup truck in a closed big box store parking lot yesterday with a sign "Help Harvey Victims. Money Preferred". Local KY plates, no official looking ID on the people or vehicles. I passed on by.
A little while back my wife and I saw a fella though walking the Bluegrass parkway on a hot day toward Lexington, midway between lexington and ETown. His two pitbull mixes looked hot too. We went to the next exit, bought 10 McDonald burgers, 4 fries, and got 6 free waters. Came back and found the man and dogs. Asked if he trusted food from strangers and if he feeds his dogs. He said "yeah I trust gift food and my dogs eat before I do". Handed over the burgers and stuff. Had to go further to find a turnaround ( did an illegal turn in an "emergency vehicles only" cut-over as he had crossed the turnpike}. When we passed by-him again, he was feeding his pups. Didn't feel scammed that time, but sadly still wonder. Don.

When I go to my local Walmart, there's usually some bum begging for a handout. Every once in a while I'll stop if the sign says he's hungry. There's a McDonalds in that Walmart so I'll offer to buy him a meal but not give him money. Not a single one has accepted the off of a meal consisting on anything on that menu they want. Guess they ain't all that hungry.

A man was driving near a truck stop and stopped for a traffic light. A scantily clad "lady" approached and said " anything you want for $150 honey" He asked" anything" Yes was the answer. She hopped into his car and they drove to his house. They got out and walked around the back where ladders and scaffolding were set up. He cracked open a can of paint handed her a brush and said ok start painting.

SAW a guy begging on the street corner once by a Swedish Smorgasbord; We (the family and I went in to eat and a bit later in comes the street corner beggar. When I went up to pay he was in front of me and pulled a roll of bills that would choke a horse and paid for his meal. When we finally got out to the car to head home, There he was on the corner again with the sign that said "HUNGRY will work for Food"; his fancy 10 speed bike was hidden in the bushes.

Chris Rock does a much shorter, much funnier version of this old joke. 8)

There's a "homeless vet" who begs near the local mall. He always has a big German Shepard with him. The dog always looks very clean and VERY well fed.

The reason many homeless people take care of their dogs first, is because that dog is usually the only family or friend they have out there in the world.. That animal means more to them, than you think it does.. It's all they have left in this world.. The dog more often than not, gets fed better than the person does that has it.. Most homeless people will go hungry themselves, just to feed that dog..

Reminds me of the song Mr. Bojangles. "And after twenty years he still grieves"
