I could be mistaken but I've only ever heard of the #1 being chambered as a #1S and as a #1H.

The Ruger web page lists the No. 1 in :
Light Sporter
Standard
Varminter
Medium Sporter
Tropical
International

I know very little about the No. 1. I do know that I love it, and am trying to learn as much as I can. That is why I posted this question here, the volume of knowledge is outstanding, with so much first hand expierence.
Thanks again for the info.

The .45-70 is available currently only as the 1S; in blue/walnut and stainless/laminate.
As previously noted, some .45-70 1H's exist, but you could count all of them on your fingers and one foot. They were made in 1976(about) and would be considered quite rare.
At least one .45-70 rifle with a beavertail forearm, sights and 22" medium weight was made. It sold on the Ruger Auction a few years ago. check out this Link:

If you don't have a copy of the Ruger No.1 book by J. D. Clayton, that is where you should first.

+1 what El Numero Uno says. (He is the No.1 guru!) I would also add that the No.1-S in 45-70 has a 22" barrel. The No.1-H has a 24" barrel. Both have the Alex Henry forend.

It is described and pictured in the Clayton Ruger No.1 book.
that is as close as I can get!
You do have a book, don't you??
I guess we should not forget about the Lyman Centennial configuration in .45-70. It had a 28" barrel in what I think was a "D" weight.

Ruger1nut,
Thanks for the info, and thanks to all who have posted. Please tell me more about the three different models of the #3. I have ordered the book, but it has not arrived yet.

I am not 100% on the last one

I think we need a Ruger No. 3 topic section all by it's own.
So much to learn, I don't know what to ask next.
Thanks to all!

Dan
