Newbie mini 14 question

I am about to buy a Ruger mini 14 in .223. Places I have looked offer 5 round or 20 round rifles. If I buy a 5 round can I still use a 20 round mag later if I want? Thanks for any help

Yes. You do realize Mini's use detachable magazines. I like the 10 round for shooting from a rest.
