I just put up my 2023 calendar, already marked with birthdays etc. And got to thinking about my Dad. When Dad put up the new calendar, he kept track of the weather and what he did for each of the first twelve days of the new year. His contention was that what the weather was, and what one did, on those first twelve days determined, to some extent, what the weather would be like for the month corresponding to the day, and likely how that month would go. Thus, what one did on the second of the month was what that person would likely do during the month of February.
As for me, tonight for my supper I had ham, fried okra and black eyed peas. I know that's for tomorrow, so I saved enough for that, too. I'll be able to come home from church and warm up my ham and black eyed peas. Many years ago I forsook hogshead for ham and so far it seems no ill has befallen me. Y'all know, of course, I don't believe in luck, but its still an old Southern tradition.
And a confession: I use that frozen breaded okra when I make my supper.
