Posted this in the semi auto and collectibles section with nary a hit, so will pose the question here...

When (by sn) did Ruger get rid of their red background medallions in the grip frame of their 22/45 pistols? I'm speaking of the non-wood grip models.
Sometime in the 228- prefix as well as the 270- prefix they replaced their regular medallions with "Sturmless" R plastic buttons.

So far on the RF spots there have been two replys, both 228- guns (up to 228-46xxx - at least 4/23/2007) with red medallions. So I'm eager to hear from anybody with a higher numbered 228- gun or any 270- prefix gun higher than 270-00023.

Chet,

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I have MkII P512 Model 00193, SN/222-17224.

The medallion is molded into the grip and there is no color, it has the "S"

I hope this helps.

Yes, all the Mark II's have grips with the molded eagle logo in both panels.
Mark III non-wood gripped models are what I'm look for.
Thanks!

22/45RP 270-76773 has SR red enamel

Yes, all the RP wood gripped models have medallios thus far. What I'm looking for are Mark III 22/45 pistols with all-black zytel grip frame (molded black panels) and with medallions.
And of course I'm also looking for the earliest 22/45's in the 228- and 270-prefix with black buttons in the black zytel grip frame.

Unfortunately the 10119 model I just bought has no color to the medallions or magazines with a 271 prefix, Mark

longgunnm:
Ruger may have made this change early in the 271- prefix, don't know yet, but as your sn may be significant to this, please send me a PM.
