New Single Six to replace the Bearcat

A few years back I bought a bearcat to carry in the woods, but it was just so darn small in my bear paws that I just never got the feel for it.

I finial found a 4 5/8" Blue Single Six to replace it.

Can't wait to pick it up next week. :mrgreen:

The NR4 is my favorite of the whole Single Six line.

Short barrels are the only way to go. Picked up a used and abused NR4 a couple of months ago real cheap. Looks like crap but shoots like a ruger.

A good friend has a 5 1/2" I shot it quit a bit, I bought a 7 1/2" back in the 80's thinking longer barrel better accuracy. Well that didn't work out for me. Stick it in a holster and the barrel hit your knee.

I bought this Bisley thinking it would be great little side arm, but when I stepped out on the porch and couldn't see the sights it got parked in the safe. I sold it a few years later unfired NIB. The one behind it is my 3 screw .357 with the 4 5/8" I love it.

I love my short barreled Single Six!

I think the Bearcat is a gorgeous little gun, but every time I've held one I can't escape how small it is. I don't have large hands, but I still find it a little awkward. I wanted a Bearcat for a kit gun, but I ended up getting an SR22 auto for that role and keeping my Single Six for single action fun.

I have a number of Bearcats and Single Sixes but my 'favorite' is my 4 5/8 Single Six. It just 'feels right' in my hand. I did install a Bisley hammer to make it a bit easier to cock.

Congrats on your single-six. I feel the same way, I once owned a bearcat, and it was a nice little revolver, but was just too small for me to handle comfortably. The 4 5/8 bbl is my favorite on a single action revolver also. Looking forward to seeing pictures! :D

Got it. :mrgreen: Action is quite rough, but was planning to do a trigger job on it anyhow. I have a wolff spring kit ready to go. Ruger really needs to step up there deburring and fit, overall nice and can't wait to get it out next weekend.

Also not a big fan of the plastic grips, and I have a set of the rosewood XR grips, but they don't fit not even close. Gonna take a lot of fitting on my end. Or maybe a birds head grip frame.

Little steep for my blood.

I have a couple sets of factory wood grips sitting around that I can either make fit or they will fit. I haven't tried any of the others yet.

And I do have a new disk/belt sander, maybe I'll give it a shot at making my own. I have some nice cherry that would make a great set.

He is pricey, and it's just him so it will take twice as long to get them as the represents, but the set I got from him this year are great. They will be on my Single Nine for the rest of my years.

Worth the wait and the price, in my opinion.

Bought this one planning to stash it in the safe, but it felt so good, I had to see how it shot.
After taking a little off the front sight, it just might be my new squirrel gun. Love the short barrel.

I tried to buy one of those fixed sight guns off a local boy. But I think he was just in it for the thrill of the chase.

Cause after striking a deal, He became a ghost.
