New Security 9 Compact Pro inconsistent primer strikes

I bought the pistol new in April. Upon shooting it for the first time I experienced misfires/light primer strikes. Sent back to Ruger and they replaced the barrel, firing pin, extractor and pins/springs. No difference, Misfires start in the 2nd magazine. Only thing that helps is to use Federal ammo and/or ammo with Federal primers which are soft. Called Ruger and they said “yeah security 9s are prone to light strikes. You can send it in again but if it functions with federal ammo then it functions.”
I realize these are budget guns but I’m not impressed with Ruger’s “oh well” attitude. A new 9mm gun that only fires certain ammo is hard for me to believe. I have a 1913 Luger that shoots anything, so why can’t my security 9 be made to shoot something other than Federal? There must be a way to overcome or reduce this. A gun that won’t fire is just a paperweight in my opinion and reminds me of Jimenez, Bryco and other like pieces of poop. Disappointed with this purchase.

I would be very discouraged were I in your shoes. I would ask them to buy it back or replace it with another product of equal value. The “security” value of this firearm is nonexistent and I would never consider carrying it for personal protection.

Thanks for the feedback Jim, I was starting to doubt myself and wonder if I was having unreal expectations from a budget priced gun so I appreciate your thoughts and agree with your statement about “no security value”. I will escalate with Ruger.

I had the same with my Max9. They use weaker springs for a better trigger pull. I had to spec out what I wanted from Wolfe. +4lbs.

Update, I installed a slightly weaker firing pin spring from Mcarbo and problem solved!

Sorry to hear that. I bought a Security 9-Compact shortly after it came out. I've only shot reloads through it. First initial magazine loaded and slide pulled back to charge it, and had a jam. Pulled the slide back and dumped that first round out, and the slide rammed home. Fired as expected. Never a hickup since. Shot all kinds of 124s, 135s, 147s, jacketed, plated, lead, poly-coated, HPs, trunicated cones, round nose. It doesn't care, it's been eating every round since that first hickup. I can mix the magazine with all kinds of different rounds and the pistol doesn't care, it fires them all.
I looked before I responded, M-Carbo has spring kits for lots of Ruger pistols, but they don't have one for the Security 9-Compact, only the full size. I've put their spring kits in the LC9, two LCP-MAX, and our Max-9 and it really smoothed things out well.
Keep looking for someone to offer a stouter spring kit when you get it back.

Nobody seems to want "stouter" springs. They make the trigger harder. I prefer reliably firing over a sweet trigger generally.
