new scout rifle questions

I know some like it and some dont. I actually find it appealing. Dont know if I will get one, but a couple questions.

has anyone heard if they make one wthout the flash suppressor? I live in NY state and they dont trust us to own a gun with one..... Also, on the mags, it appears to come with a 10 rounder, but they sell 5 rounders for hunting. Are those mags specifici to this gun, or can you buy ohter ones?

I examined a new Scout today at our local gunshow. The flash hider is removable, the barrel being threaded 5/8 x 24 thread, the same as the AR-10 and most other 308 AR style rifles. Not surprisingly, all of the muzzle accessories that fit the AR's will fit the Scout. There is a device called a thread protector that would fit on the Scout's barrel once the flash hider is removed and make it legal for your jurisdiction. I posted another thread about the Magazines on sale at MidwayUSA that will fit in the Scout. Bob! :wink:

The flash suppressor is removeable and Ruger will be, from what I hear, importing 18" barreled Scout Rifles to Australia. Maybe that's the same configuration they will release to New York and other communist states behind the Iron Curtain?

The threaded portion would have to be eliminated or the thread protector permanently installed (soldered or pinned & staked) to make it legal in NY.

Is a "Flash Hider" itself illegal to put on any rifle in NY, or is it like California...one of 3 parts of restricted items on a SEMI-Automatic centerfire rifle w/ detachable magazine?

If it is ANY rifle....NY's gun laws are worse than I thought. :shock:

Bummer, I though we had the corner market on REDiculous gun legislation and the rest of the country had a little more sense (In most cases A LOT more sense)!

I'd guess once things get rolling and if there's enough marketability for one, they'll do that with this one as they did with the SR-22.

I Think this Gun is Legal in New York I will reread the Book, the assault weapons can have two markers of the Five , Flash suppressor, Pistol Grip, Collapsible stock,Bayonet Lug, More than 10 round mags not allowed . Also a semiautomatic a Bolt Gun is not on the List. I will double check with the State Police.
