Doing a slow transformer job from Target 10/22 with bipod/large scope set up, to something a bit more nimble for Steel Challenge.

We'll see how nimble ~I~ can be in the next few weeks....

Let us know how the SightMark workd out. I had one on my AR and the dot would shift imact point and on occasion go out for a second or two when I fired a round.

Just went to get it final sighted in today at the FINALLY sunny range.

Got it grouping pretty good under 3 of the reticles, but the 'circle and dot' 4th reticle would move the POI 4 inches to the right and 2" down.

I took the gun/mount and targets to the vendor.

They had nothing on hand that resembled this configuration, which I purposefully chose.

They replaced the sight no problem, and even bore sighted it for me. While the range is about 15 minute drive from the vendor, I had the top off my Jeep and just cruised in the warm afternoon sun after a hard morning full of chores.

So we'll give the new one a try in a few days.

I have found that some of the red dot sights with multiple reticles will shift POI when changing from one to another. I gave up on them. Usually I found myself just using the single red dot anyway.

That's good to know, I may have to drop to Plan B.....and given the lack of choices short of the high-buck versions, or the econobuck otherwise too BIG versions, I'm seeking a better answer.

I like the size/shape of the Burris FastFireII, but am not impressed enough to buy a second unit.

I like the one mounted on the G34 as it helps considerably for the GSSF type of competition.

It did glare out on one charming afternoon stage a few months ago, while pointing pretty much 'eighth-on' into the sun on that stage. Couldn't see a thing, orange/white total loss of use of the sight for that stage. Did a 'point and guess' routine.

Look at a bushnell TRS-25. Not the same style you have now, but it is a smaller tube style. I have one one on a 357 and had one on a 12 ga slug gun. I am putting that one on my 10/22 TD as I scoped the shotgun.

...yes.....I've always done the 'too much is not enough' in the optics realm....while mostly glass scopes, they've all been more than I really needed.

One outstanding purchase I made long ago when they first came out, the original Aimpoint back in the 70s.

Used it for various matches on a variety of things, from 200 yd Ram plinking to 50' Bulls Eye.

Finally let a buddy talk me out of it about 5 years ago.

Got a Bushnell large short multi reticle gizmo (not a TRS) that came on a nice barely used SBH 41 mag I happened across. Don't really like it --yet---and it too seems to have a wandering POI....

I'd appreciate any first-hand experience and the lessons therefrom, for this particular application:

Target 10/22 (20" bull barrel) for close-in "Steel Challenge" type matches. Distances vary from 20'~75' MAX with plates from 6" to 18". Usually 1 hit per target-4 targets per string PLUS a stop plate, for 5 total each string. 5 strings per stage, 6 stages per match.

Some stages might be alternating on 2 plates ending on the stop plate. Wide variety of heights and distances. Sometimes just 6" falling plate rack....or single targets with a stop hit on a plate.

Way more fun that talking about it.

Need easy motion of gun between targets which may be bunched 6' wide or in a wide deep bay 50' apart; fast acquisition and both eyes open is an advantage.

Our top local guys are getting into the sub-1.5 second/string pretty consistently.

I've never really been interested in any real speed matches before. This starts with 'low port arms' position if you're using a carbine.

Thats interesting, I shoot Steel Challenge, I just hadn't heard anybody using a rifle though. My rimfire setup is a MKIII 5.5" slab side Target with JPoint and my centerfire is a STI 9mm.

I too was surprised with the option of 'long gun'.
Considering the physical dimensions of the carbine 10/22 and how many have such as the Sig 522 etc I suppose it was inevitable. Certainly it's more fun than I had anticipated.

Hi,

I shoot steel plate matches with a .22 rifle and also .22 pistols. Shooting the rifle is a blast. I shoot both categories with iron sights.

I have shot a 10/22 and a S & W MP15/22 in the matches. My 10/22 is a light-weight camo version. I would think that the target 10/22 would be a little harder with the extra weight but maybe not as I do about the same with the MP15/22 and it is much heavier.

Shoot fast and shoot often is my motto.
