New P95, do I have a problem?

Just picked up a new P95. The mags eject with authority when the slide is closed. When the slide is locked back I have to pull the mags out of the gun.

Is this normal? I wouldn't think so.

I had an issue just the opposite of yours with a P94. Turned out the ejector was bent.

The mags should work the same in either position something must be binding slightly or something. On the 95 you can't take the grip off to look around like on the 94 but hopefully someone with more 95 experience will come along and give you an idea to look at.

Since it is new you could take it back to the store and trade for another unit. If the store cares about its customers they should make it right.

Welcome to the forum and I'm sure you will enjoy the 95 as soon as this little issue get figured out.

I haven't messed with my 95 much but now I gotta check. Hopefully I'll get a little safe time tonight to check it out. If so I'll post what I find.

I just had mine at the range today and everything seemed normal. Didn't notice any problems with the magazines ejecting.

I check both of mine and the mags work the same if the slide is back or not. I think you have something that is hanging someplace.

Just for point of reference mine are older DC units.

The only thing that I can think of that is in the mag well is the ejector and the hammer spring.

With the slide back and the mag out can you see the spring protrude into the mag well at all?

I am no gunsmith but have taken a couple metal frame P-guns apart.

Good luck.

The Ruger P-series are good functional pistols. Ive carried the P89 and the P95 as duty weapons, now relegated to "trunk guns"... never a bobble or jam with either full-capacity or 10 round mags. Hopefully your problem is easily fixed. IF not call Ruger and tell em about it. My experiences with the Company have been of great satisfaction when needing service on a couple of mini-14s. They didnt dick around, told me to send it to them, and both times (different rifles) they were sent back shortly, FIXED.

Are you doing this with loaded or unloaded mags? If it "ejects with authority" with a full mag, it could have to do with the weight of the magazine. If you are doing it both ways with the same empty magazine it should react the same with the slide back as it does with the slide forward.

Short story.
A buddy of mine was having a similar issue with his Glock. He spent hours at the range and couldn't figure out why his mags ejected different. After talking to him and handling it myself, I found it was operator error. The only time he released a magazine with the slide back was when he had an empty magazine. Any time he was doing reload drills, he dropped the magazine with rounds still in it. The difference in weight was enough to make a difference.

I guess my biggest question is does this sound like your case? If not, does it feel like the magazine is being pushed out when the slide is forward?

I assumed empty mags and that is how I checked mine just to be clear.

The slide stop is engaged by the mag follower.
The spring in the mag is slightly compressed by the slide stop.
With the slide back the pressure of the slide stop on the mag follower is less but it should still drop free.

I still say try where you got the gun first. If you haven't fired it and they have another unit in stock maybe they will swap you out.

Let us know how this pans out.
