Just picked up a Blackhawk Bisley 7.5 inch .45lc.

From the serial number it is 92 vintage. Looks near perfect, not a mark on it. Any suggestions for best type of ammo? Could not find any in stock locally so had to order some, hope it gets here soon I really want to shoot this one.

Makes my old 3 screw 22 look like a pup! But it will still get most of the use since the 45's were big $$.

A local pawn shop had it for $300. Probably paid plenty, but it really wanted to go home with me.

Welcome to the Forum!
You got an excellent price on the "hogleg!"
As for ammo selections,, yes,, finding some factory stuff is still an issue in many places,, and the prices are high. That's why most of us who are serious shooters reload! I can't offer any advice on the best loads for yours as I reload and I build good loads for my guns. There are milder cowboy loads,, normal older Colt friendly loads,, and there are hotter loads for the Ruger/T/C Contender firearms. Your Ruger is a good solid firearm,, and it'll handle any factory load.
If you've never shot a bigbore hadgun,, you are in for some fun,,,! The recoil will be more than the 22 you have,, but with a proper grip, and shooting,, many of us enjoy excellent accuracy out of our guns. Now,, sometimes the 45 Colt calibered revolvers can have oversized throats,, or need a little "tuning" to make them more accurate. DON'T let the last statement bother you until AFTER you've tried your gun.
Once you shoot it,, let us know how it does & if possible,, post pics of a fe targets,, the range, the type of ammo etc & if we think it needs a professional checking over,, we'll be able to offer more help.
Also,,if you live near one of us who has a lot of experience in dealing with 45 Colts,, we can truly give you a lot of help.
I'd buy guns like yours all day long for the price you paid!

Howdy there HogLegBill, nice Blackhawk at a very good price. It'll take any factory ammo you can buy and is a great hunting gun too. For everyday shooting and to get use to your new buddy, try some of the Magtech or Winchester white box ammo. It's reasonably priced, for today's prices, and decent quality.
There are 'cowboy' loads available at reduced velocity and recoil as well and some good jacketed hunting bullets but they can be hard to find.

Try cheaper than dirt. I've found them to have a very good selection of about any caliber ammo that I want, from the cheapest FMJ, to the latest in high tech hollowpoints, and hunting cartridges.

Thanks everyone for the input. I guess I really need to get those 45 reloding dies if I'm going to use the Blackhawk very much.

I am about 60 miles from the Sidney Nebraska Cabelas store so I wil check them out and kep looking on the internet too.

Thanks for the suggestions.
