i bought a nmsbh in 44 mag love the gun shoots like a dream, accept for. that stupid freewheeling cylinder that is the most horrible design flaw i hate it the jerk that came up with that should be beaten with a wet noodle and then given a paper route in siberia. so now my question i would like a 5.50 in. super blackhawk to go with it does it have the same crappy free wheeling cylinder and is it the large grip like the 7.5 in. sbh in 44 mag. i really like ruger i own several of there da revolvers there top shelf but that sbh is such a pain to unload if the 5.5 in. is the same i'll probably trade the 7.5 off. thanks

The 4 5/8" & the 5 1/2" SBH both have a standard Blackhawk size grip frame.
I can't say for a New SBH but none of mine left Ruger with a free spin pawl in them, that only happened after I installed them.

doug59,

Ruger never made any guns with free spin cylinders. Just install a new pawl (the hand that advances the cylinder) in it. Do you work on your guns? It's a 10 minute job, usually a drop in. A LGS wouldn't charge much if you don't.

I just made several of my Rugers free spin. Have you ever had a NM Ruger w/o free spin? You probably can't appreciate the free spin until you have. Unless you get a Flat top Blackhawk or New Vaq, they have the improved loading alignment.
To me it's a great improvement over not having the chamber line up and not being able to go backwards after it clicks when loading and unloading.
But that doesn't mean you should like it.

All the best,
