New model S/S plastic grips?

I may be spoiled but the New Model Single Six black plastic grips look and feel cheap!
Give me Rosewood again even if it costs a bit more...

There's probably no way to ever verify it, but that's probably the reason walnut grips were quickly standardized from almost the beginning of .44 flattop production in 1956.

mainly "cheap" to make, butt hats the nature of "plastics" (polymers) they can and do break quite easily, the newer stuff is much tougher these days but look at ANY old gun that has whatever form of plastic grips of the era , and they are broken, chipped or the escutcheons 'pulled;' through or busted out,no matter what make or model of firearm...............lots of guys here on the Ruger forum, making grips to whatever YOU may want ,materials as well as sizes.......you want 'rosewood, then go for it.........
and you can always call the factory or any of the national grip makers out there. We see them at the gun shows locally, on any given weekend........

The "old factory standard grip was just about perfect for about anynormal use of the revolver since the Single Six has no real recoil.
About the only reason to change grips is to dress the revolver up or maybe to fill voids in the hand as I did with mine. I ordered a set of Steer imprinted white polymier grips that fill the little hollow in the palm(the steer making a palmswell) and my target scores improved!
I still like the standard grips though because the wood is so tough and stays pretty indefinatelly.
Yes you can buy any one of many custom grips made of nearly any substance and tou can get custom molding, scrimshaw, etc as you dream up.
I still don't like my Stainlwss Vaqueros plastic grips and they rested about just as long as it took to order a set of Stag grips...
