I found this little guy yesterday afternoon browsing the gun shops, and with the price they gave me I couldn't leave without it. I'm a sucker for the shorter barrel length single actions. It's a 44 Mag. Going to have to make me a cowboy ammo belt and holster for it :)

I keep telling myself that I have absolutely no need for a single action, then I find myself lookin at them or picking one up, then all of a sudden, I NEED one. Don't have one at the moment, but that short barreled Blackhawk could make all that change.

Thanks all. Jframe - 'need' is a relative term. I don't need a third arm but man would it be handy. It's a good thing my girlfriend likes gun because these lame excuses and analogies never work :) I didn't catch it in the cabinet until the second go around, and don't know a lot about Ruger revolvers but when you see a good deal you know it.

I answered you over at the 'other place' you posted this...

The model number is KS-458N I believe, and it is a current model...

I really like it...

Sweet looking pistol you found there! I have all 3 barrel lengths and can't decide which I like best, but for a packing pistol that is awefully nice.

Thanks all! I won't lie, reminds me a lot of grandads 45 Colt SAA. It was a 4.5". The action isn't is smooth and it's a little heavier, but the price was about 75% cheaper and I can guilelessly shoot the snot out of it.

DixieBoy, thank you for the compliments. It is a Super Blackhawk, left the Super out. Makes for a mouthful. There used to be railroad tracks behind the shop and it makes for a nice backdrop, given a little dark that late in the afternoon.

I'll agree with the cylinder too - just looks right. Beefy. The way I want a Ruger to look.

The other blackhawk I own was my other granfathers only handgun (to my knowledge). It's the old 3 screw style and a pleasant .357 shooter, but I much prefer this hammer. The old Colts have the thinner hammer for the action is so smooth you don't need the 'extra grab'. With the leverage that wide hammer has this one has a surprisingly light pull.

Now you have an even shorter Super BH choice, the Talo exclusive with 3 3/4" barrel.

Nice find and glad the price was right. The unfluted cylinder is a statement in Strength and looks to be able to take on all comers.
Thanks for sharing the view.

It looks great. In my experience I've realized that the short barreled "big bore" revolver usually needs a very tall front sight.

Here's a "relic" that I had Ruger help restore. I requested the tallest front
sight they could install. It was only a few file strokes "too tall".

Of course, the stainless steel guns have "pinned" front sight blades. Request the tallest they make. Here's a stainless .45 cal. with the tall front sight.

Just a FYI.
Enjoy your .44!

I just sold my Blackhawk this morning.

That's .... errr .... crazy! An SA is the 'only' thing you need :) . Ya keep 'em, not sell 'em!  IMHO of course :) .

Be careful out there. You can get a .44 magnum barrel too short, especially if you run a lot of full house loads. jack

I think there are 5 different barrel lengths available for New Model 44 mags. 3 3/4", 4 5/8", 5 1/2", 7 1/2" and 10 1/2"
