Cleaning my pistol and noticed two dings on the bolt face. Did a search and found out that it is a problem. What to do ? call Ruger or live with it.
Only 600 rounds fired !!
Thanks
Rick

Spoke to Whitney at Ruger. Sent her a picture of the bolt face. See what happens !!!

Received this from Whitney at customer service .
Seems like their not really concerned .... however if it gets worseI will send it in.
Never used the bolt stop as a release and HV ammo shouldn't cause this.

Okay, so I got an answer from my tech. He stated that if you are using the bolt stop as a release or using high velocity of ammo can cause this. If you have any issues from the firearm, the firearm will need to come in. Otherwise you should be good to go!

I wouldn’t give it a second thought. Shoot it and enjoy it!
Exactly what I plan on doing. Other then the dings the pistol is super accurate and I'm very pleased. I installed a Burris Fastfire III red dot and plan on shooting a Bullseye Match this weekend. Should be interesting, shooting one hand is really a challenge

My ruger mark iv has the same problem . I spoke to whitney as well. today 5-15-23. The techician said this appears from usage of the block stop; which i do not use. Then said it was because of high velocity ammunition. I took the gun to our metallurgist and he said bolt metal is soft . Volquartsten bolt much harder then rugers with no sign of indentation like rugers. Ruger should replace bolts with properly heat treated steel.

There a lot of people selling brand new stripped Ruger MK4 bolts. I bought 4 on sale from a eBay dealer for $20.00 each plus shipping. Wirthwein Guns has new blued stripped bolts for $25.00 plus $6.99 shipping as I type. AK, HI and Pluto are a little more and thats the total price for shipping no matter how much you buy. They also have new MK4 take off 5-1/2 inch bull barrels for $30.00 plus shipping

Again I don't feel you should have to buy another bolt if the one you have is not properly heat treated. The volquarsten bolt shows no indentation after thousands of rounds.

Checked Wirthwein Guns 137.00 $ for new Stainless Steel bolt with all internals. Ruger should replace with better bolt I'll just shoot it for now and if it gets worse I'll send it in. For Christ sake this is a stainless bolt shouldn't get dings !!!!!

Didn't realize yours was a stainless model. I added to my post to make things more clear.

We as Ruger Mark Iv owners cannot let Ruger sweep this bolt face issue under the Rug. This is a metallurgic heat treat problem. Ruger has to cover all expenses.
