New grip

Made of apitong wood. A hard, coarse wood
used in making trailer beds. Has some nice
gold highlights. Maybe I'll make the other
grip.... someday.

We use apitong at work but never have any with such a nice finish. Now add the medallions! 8)

Looks a bit like a pale variation of mahogany wood. Where is this wood generally found?

I think apitong may come from the Philipines. I used to work at a trailer factory (along with Nimrod .308 from the forum here). We used a lot of apitong for trailer decking. I was always amazed that we would get pieces of it up to 30' long and there wouldn't be a knot in it anywhere. Super resinous wood, pretty much rot proof. It has so much pitch in it you can easily light pieces of it with a match and have a fire going in no time. Never thought about grips made from it, but they (it) looks good. I have some African Teak I brought back from over there a couple of years ago. Have thought about grips made from it...

If you get a little aggressive with the sander,
you can actually see the pitch form on the wood.
