I expect the automakers figure there's more money to be had in midsize SUVs and double-cabbed full-size pickups, than an old-school 4X4 like a Bronco or Ramcharger.
Which is a shame; I have fond memories of the '76 Ramcharger my parents had when I was a kid. Simple to maintain, reliable, roomy, tough, just about unstoppable off-road, and with that big 440 would pass anything but a gas station.
I've been toying with the notion of picking up a beater 4X4 for winter commuting - I'm in the process of relocating to the Ozarks, and I've got a thirty-minute drive one-way to my new job - and I was looking at a late eighties-vintage Ramcharger a guy in Lebanon had for sale. Body seemed pretty solid - in Missouri, most of the Blazers, Broncos and Ramchargers of that vintage got "et" by the tinworm - but at $5500 the price seemed just a bit steep for what it was. Oh, well, I'd probably be better off with an older, six-cylinder Cherokee or Explorer anyway...
