No the Ruger does not come with an ambi. There are a couple of 1911s with the cut off rear of the grip and they do conceal better. They also feel great in the hand. It just have not jumped on one yet but I may have to.
Fred

I purchased the S&W E-series SC model with the rounded butt which does aid in concealment but the shorter butt of the Officer's ACP model is my preferred carry piece..along with the Kimber Ultra CDP. Don't get me wrong, the S&W is really nice...It is just harder to conceal in the summer months for me.

Maybe now that Colt is back from the brink and supposedly going to start producing more customer desirable guns, they will reintroduce the Officer's ACP...would be great along with some of their revolver models again...

Thanks for the info...I will call up to Newport and see if I can get me a 6718! (Visiting this forum regularly, invariably costs me $.)[/quote]

Check Davidsons, They had 27 of them when I ordered mine. They still have 11.

I will be patient, one will become available as a salesman sample, or other factory used pistol...but thanks for the heads' up to look at Gun Genie.

Fred,

What is that ambi safety that you installed on it? I have one just like it on a customized Colt that I acquired a little while ago and am curious as to who's safety that is.

Thanks!

The safety I used is a Meuschke. http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/safety-parts/safeties/mueschke-1911-auto-extended-ambidextrous-45-safety-prod9212.aspx They have been discontinued though. I do not have anymore and will go with Wilson next time.

That is a viable mothod Ok, but in a SHTF situation taking your finger
off the trigger pushing the safety and getting back on the trigger could
be hazardous to ones health.
I guess you do things a WHOLE lot different than I do. I DO NOT start
with my finger on the trigger, and if it . . were . . a bad situation, I
would have the safety off TO START WITH.

I am sure that dry firing helps a trigger pull! I just feel I can do a trigger
job quicker than 8K dry fires.
Go back and read my post. I bought the R.I. EXPRESSLY for dry firing.
In this thread I simply noted the significant improvement you can experience
via dry firing.

Gabe Suarez suggests 8K-10K dry firing BEFORE you get into serious
shooting.

Sorry. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, just MHO. Never heard of Gabe? This is the kind of thing that kept me from replying to posts for over a year. I guess I never learn!

Gabe Suarez wrote the book, "The Tactical Pistol" (long before the whole tacticool phenomenon). I also think he has his own training school.

I purchased his book many years ago based on the fact that Jeff Cooper had written the forward so, in my opinion, it already had the legitimacy I required to read it.
