New 10/22 International

I have been putting together parts for a 10/22 build and only needed an action to complete it. Rather than buy new, I was looking for a used one and had found one thanks to Redstick. However, I couldn't seem to hook up with the guy, not Redstick, so today I called him as told him I was just going to buy a new 10/22 as I wanted to finish the project......

So I go to the LGS and find out they are out of 10/22 carbines......they sold out due to a sale. I asked if they could go in the back and check to make sure that they were out. The sales guy goes to the back and comes out with 3 boxes.....I assumed of course these were regular 10/22 carbines. How wrong I was. He told me that there were no more carbines, but he "found" three interesting 10/22s.

One was a laminated stock with a stainless bull barrel.....not interested in that one.

One was the new Classic V......and I was interested in that one, so we set it aside.

The last one was one of the walnut stocked, stainless steel, Internationals from earlier this year. Apparently it had been stashed in the back and stuff was piled on top. They did not know it was there until I asked them to check for a plain carbine. What surprised me the most was the finish on the action....it is a brushed aluminum. It does not appear to have any type of a coating on it at all.

Long story short, I bought the International and will have to wait to finish the project. So sometimes, even a blind squirrel gets a nut.

If anyone is looking for one, last I saw, Sportsmens Den in Ohio had some, maybe back in Nov? They will ship. I saw one of the Sports South laminate versions at a show, to my eye the walnut Talo version is the nicest.

Davidson's current offering does not look to be the walnut version, listed as hardwood, so maybe a new variant?

Ruger has the blue version listed on their site and they state it is a walnut stock. Lipsey's has the stock listed as a "wood stock," but they also further state they are walnut. I thought all of the Internationals were walnut, but not sure......

I should have added that I thought all were walnut except the laminated versions. I did not know there were any birch though......

I have a NIB walnut/blue, NIB birch/stainless, and a used laminate stainless one.

I looked at my box and mine has a catalog number of K10/22RBIW, which I assume means it is a walnut version. It is a model #1264. Interestingly, this rifle on TALO's site is given as a K10/22RBIM and not RBIW. They state it is a walnut stock. I'm wondering if this catalog number is a mistake as the model number is 1264 for both?

The Internationals on Davidsons have an item # of K10/22RBI, and the stock is listed as hardwood an not walnut. So I wonder if these are in fact birch instead of walnut?

I agree with Wayno - Internationals look best with walnut:

The box says 10/22RBIW Model 01265 Polished Blue. I too thought these were sold out months ago.

I just bought one of the Blued TALO walnut mannlichers from seebs in the Classifeds. I think he's still got some stainless versions left.

I picked up a mint Ruger Int. Mannlicher rifle circa 1968 back in 2010. I paid $225.00 for it. It also came with a scope which I upgraded. The previous owner was original to the rifle. He never shot it and maybe only put a couple hundred rounds thru it. It had been parked in his closet for over 40 years! I absolutely love it. It operates better than my new [2010 model]. The word sexy comes to mind.
