I wear the "western look" when ever I go out in public. My hat seems to attract the ladies' attention as many young enough to be my grand daughter seem to flirt with me, even when my wife is with me.

This morning I was out an a car with two ladies stopped and complemented me on my hat and outfit. I told my wife about it, and her comment was that women are tired of seeing men dressed so trashy in public.

Never thought of it that way.

And here I am the opposite of those women. I do believe I have one or two pair of jeans and those only get used when I am doing something where I am apt to get dirty like working in the yard or playing with the mutts in the back yard. If I am being lazy around the house and not getting out in public I wear shorts and t-shirts in warmer weather and sweats in the colder times. Going out at all whether for work or other I am always wearing dresses. I do like being girly-girl.

Sadly, I think younger women flirt with older men because they think we are harmless. Old guys are safe and comfortable.

Also, consider that older men generally treat women with greater respect and courtesy. Think about it, when was the last time you saw a young guy pause and hold a door open for a woman, reach something on a higher grocery shelf or allow a woman to proceed ahead of then in a line.

All the little things we were taught by our elders that were part and parcel of being a gentleman.

I was surprised the first time I traveled away from Texas as an adult. I answered a question from a lady with "yes ma'am" and she got insulted. Another time when entering a bank, a lady was coming behind me and I stopped and held the door for her to enter first and she would have none of it. It was good to get home where there is no hidden agenda assumed for common courtesy.

That makes me think of how many women will get mad if you call them lady like it is an insult. To me the person saying that to me is indicating they believe I behave with class, with character. I can't wrap my head around any female not being pleased with that type of compliment, but with some folks today....
