A Harley Davidson electric motorcycle. In my younger days, I had a chopped 55 pan head and road with a club. Someone stole that beautiful bike out of my garage while I was vacationing in Viet Nam. As my life progressed, I never really had the extra cash to get another bike, but I'll never forget that one.

There is one true saying, "Nothing sounds like a Harley".

This is the first I've heard of it. I saw a commercial on TV. I don't care if it was $2900. I wouldn't buy one. If I'm going to take my chances on getting killed on a motorcycle, it would be a real Harley complete with that Harley sound.

To each his own - my Concours 14 (sold as a GTR 1400 in Europe) sounds like this, and suits me just fine (especially on a 700 mile day).

With younger generations Harley is in trouble. They aren't buying motorcycles period. Not just Harleys. Many do not even want a car. There are afew things looming in the future. The classic cars that someone like me loves mean absolutely NOTHING to a millennial. The prices of these classics is going to plummet. With that in mind all forms of motorsports are in trouble. Whether you're talking NASCAR, NHRA or SCCA. Attendance is down and new blood coming into motorsports is way down. As the babyboomers go so shall go all of the above. If it can't be done on a phone the millennials are not interested.

Who has 30k to plunk down on a motorcycle? Then you need all the upgrades so it will get out of its own way. Then you need to buy the uniform.
Then a truck and trailer to haul it.
And then you have to get "the attitude".
Harley priced itself out of the market.

They already started, the other forum I visit is auto related and the recent auction prices were down an easy 30%. Even Hagerety Insurance put out a blurb on why the market is turning down (I haven't read it yet)

My neighbor has an electric street bike and it will according to him really go, I don't know what its top end is though.

Last time I saw him riding it he pulled up to talk and I suggested he put a $3,000 stereo system on it and play the sound of a Harley while he rode around.....

Back in my day all the Harleys were chopped down and had the springers and the small peanut tanks. Don't forget the jockey shift and suicide clutch. Add a nice set of pipes and a bunch of chrome and a king and queen seat and you were ready to hit the road.

However, I've even grown to like the full dresser Harleys now days. But they still sound like a Harley. Nothing like it.

As I said.... to each his own. The Kawasaki Concours 14 is way faster, smoother, quieter, handles far better, has way better brakes, and costs half of what a bagger costs. I've ridden since 1962, and have owned Yamahas, BSAs, Triumphs, Hondas, and Kawsakis....I have put about 500 miles on various HDs (never owned one)... Sportsters, Fat Lady Haulers, and Dynas.... they ain't for me.

If Harley-Davidson wants to survive, they are going to have to build and sell something other than a $30K bagger to 70 year old men.

The price on all cruiser bikes is bad. I bought a big Honda Shadow almost new for about .33 cents on the dollar for what the original owner paid. I've seen tons of Harleys for half what they were worth 2 years ago. The older Harley enthusiasts are too old for a 2 wheeler. The new bike buyers want a fun sporty bike which cruisers are not. Harley is building a 3 wheeler for the geriatric bikers, maybe that will help them out? Besides the electric motorcycles they are also selling electric bicycles. Time will tell if they survive but my bet is Indian will adapt and survive Harley will not.
